Nassim Secci, a former corporate lawyer turned passionate organizer, channels her own experience of juggling career and family life into a mission that transcends mere decluttering.
The Happy Space Co. is not just about neat shelves; it's a testament to the profound connection between well-organized spaces and a harmonious, joyful life. Nassim's journey from a legal career to the realization of her true calling unfolds in the tapestry of The Happy Space Co., where each impeccably organized space is a testament to her commitment to transforming lives, one meticulously arranged room at a time.
One of my favorite aspects of house organization is the tangible impact it has on people's daily lives. Witnessing the transformation from cluttered chaos to streamlined order is incredibly rewarding. I find joy in creating spaces that not only look aesthetically pleasing but also function seamlessly, making it easier for individuals and families to navigate their routines. Another aspect I love is the personalized touch that each organisation project brings – understanding the unique needs and preferences of my clients and tailoring solutions that truly enhance their living experience. Ultimately, the satisfaction of contributing to a more harmonious and joyful home is what makes house organisation an endlessly fulfilling endeavor for me.
Spring cleaning is a great way to declutter and organise your home after winter. The first day of spring, which is March 20, is an ideal time to start, but you don't have to wait for that date. You can begin the process in March, April, or May. To make the most of your spring cleaning, we've gathered some helpful tips and tricks to help you streamline the process like a pro.
Start with easy, and achievable tasks
It's important not to underestimate the positive impact that small victories can have, especially at the beginning of a task. To start, focus on easy tasks around your home, such as organising a shelf or drawer. If you come across an area where you can get rid of 80% of the items, prioritise that as your first task. By beginning with manageable tasks, you can easily adjust your pace if you become fatigued, emotionally drained, or run out of time.
Big tasks - big reward
After completing a few simple tasks, it's time to take on a bigger challenge. We all have that one area in our homes that is overflowing with stuff, whether it's a storage room, a cluttered home office, or a closet that just won't close. Dedicate an entire afternoon to this project and trust that the effort will be worth it in the end. I like to call this area the "big-reward" zone because it has the potential to greatly improve your overall well-being.
Starting new systems
Organising your home can be made easier with the implementation of different systems to prevent clutter from building up. A good starting point is to assign a specific designated area for incoming paperwork, such as bills, school letters, or mail that needs to be reviewed. Another area can be designated for mail that has already been reviewed and requires follow-up actions. Additionally, you can create systems to organise clothing, children's rooms, toys, and artwork. For children's toys, a rotation system can be put in place where toys are regularly swapped with those currently on their shelves to keep things fresh and interesting. The best part about implementing a system is that everyone in your household can participate and contribute, making it a team effort.
Take a photo for a memory
When decluttering, it can be challenging to let go of sentimental items like old baby toys and clothes. This is because people often have an emotional attachment to the memories associated with these items. To start the decluttering process, it's essential to acknowledge the emotional connection and be kind to oneself. In most cases, people are not attached to the item itself but rather to the memories it brings. To help my clients declutter sentimental items, I recommend taking a picture of the item, such as a child's old art project. This way, they can still hold onto the memory without holding onto the physical clutter.
Make it digital
When it comes to managing incoming mail, I would suggest using a document scanning application like TurboScan. This app can be quite helpful when you have a lot of paperwork to sort through and are uncertain whether you might need a particular item, such as a bill or receipt, at some point in the future.
Have goals in mind when organising
Home organization involves creating a space that represents your personality and goals. If your objective is to be more active, you can set up a designated area where your gym bag is easily accessible and move your workout clothes to the top drawer of your dresser. Furthermore, if you have enough room, consider decluttering to create a dedicated workout area in your home.
Care for your clothes
Caring for your clothes is crucial for promoting sustainable fashion. To extend the lifespan of your garments, it is important to mend any tears, reattach loose buttons, and follow the care instructions given on the label. Additionally, it is recommended to wash your clothes at lower temperatures, air-dry them, and use detergents that are friendly to the environment. These practices will not only help in reducing your carbon footprint but also promote sustainable fashion.
Timeless pieces and stylist tips
A sustainable wardrobe is all about building a capsule wardrobe that prioritizes quality over quantity. You can choose pieces that are easy to mix and match in different ways. Clothing made from sustainable materials often features excellent craftsmanship and is designed to last longer. Working with a stylist can help create a collection of timeless and versatile pieces that go beyond fleeting fashion trends.
Support Sustainable Local Fashion Brands
When you are adding new pieces to your wardrobe, it's important to opt for brands that are committed to ethical practices and sustainable materials. There are some really great brands out there that combine style with sustainability. MiliMilu, Selvaage and Tove and Libra are some of the exemplary brands that offer beautiful clothes made with the planet in mind.
Organize your wardrobe
A closet that is well-organized can help you see what you own clearly, reducing the chances of making unnecessary purchases. At Happy Space, we focus on decluttering your closet first and then implementing organization systems to make it easier for you to manage your wardrobe. This approach not only saves time but also promotes responsible consumption.
The Second-Hand Market
Buying pre-owned items and selling ( or passing down) your own clothes you dont need anymore is essential for reducing the environmental impact of fashion. By supporting platforms dedicated to second-hand fashion like The Hula or Retykle, you help decrease the demand for new, resource-intensive production. Retykle is a pioneering platform for sustainable shopping for children. MiliMilu facilitates the resale of kids' clothing on Retykle, creating a circular purchasing model and highlighting the potential value of reselling items.
I wholeheartedly embrace the significance of a sustainable lifestyle and believe our work as home organizers is helping our clients do the same. Decluttering, a fundamental aspect of our organizing process, naturally prompts us to reconsider our consumption habits.
As we sift through belongings, it sparks a heightened awareness of what we truly need and value. Moreover, organizing isn't just about creating visually appealing spaces; it's a powerful tool to prevent unnecessary consumption. By systematically arranging and categorizing our possessions, we gain a comprehensive understanding of what we already own, discouraging unnecessary rebuying or overbuying.
This dual approach, combining mindful decluttering with intentional organization, not only contributes to a greener planet but also fosters a more conscious and sustainable way of living.
My eldest is diving into sustainability lessons at school, and it's been a game-changer for us at home. We're all about recycling, saving water, and making sure we use things wisely.
As a home organizer, I of course have my own take on the topic too. We talk about consciously passing on things we don't want anymore – like giving toys to friends who'll enjoy them. Plus, we're big on taking care of what we have. I’ve created systems to keep track of missing puzzle or game pieces, making sure everything goes back where it belongs. (This is a system we create for a lot of our clients too!) It's like a puzzle in itself, making sure we don't have to toss out a whole game just because one crucial piece is missing. We're all about avoiding that kind of waste.
My husband hails from Sardinia, so we're all about the beach – it's a big part of why we chose to live near one. Family bike rides have also become a favorite outdoor activity for us. Honestly, I never imagined being a bicycle person, but here I am, loving our neighbourhood rides together.

]]>Summer is the ideal season to explore and experiment with your personal style, as it presents the perfect opportunity to embrace new women fashion trends. This season, there are several key trends that are dominating the women's fashion scene and capturing everyone's attention. One of the standout trends that has made a remarkable comeback is the flowy maxi dress. These maxi dresses and mini dresses ( we have linen dresses, cotton dresses and even dresses from Tencel), not only provide utmost comfort but also exude an effortless elegance that is hard to resist. Whether you prefer bold and vibrant prints or prefer to stick to solid colors, a maxi dress is an incredibly versatile piece that can be effortlessly dressed up or down for any occasion.
Moreover, summer is all about embracing vibrant colors and playful prints that reflect the joyful spirit of the season. This year, bold and bright hues such as vibrant green, earthy brownish tones, and eye-catching fuchsia are taking center stage in the fashion world. Feel free to make a bold statement with your outfit by opting for these attention-grabbing colors. For instance, we absolutely adore the organic shorts and jacket set, which not only embodies sustainable fashion but also serves as a wardrobe essential for the summer season. In our latest collections, you will find an array of prints inspired by tropical motifs and blooming flowers. These captivating prints can be seamlessly incorporated into summer dresses, stylish tops, and other wardrobe essentials, ensuring that your capsule wardrobe is up to date and on-trend. So, this summer, don't be afraid to embrace the latest women fashion trends and let your personal style shine through!
When it comes to building your summer wardrobe, there are a few key essentials that every woman should have. Firstly, a collection of lightweight and breathable fabrics is essential to beat the summer heat. Look for materials like linen, cotton, and chambray that allow air to circulate and keep you cool and comfortable.
A versatile pair of shorts is also a must-have for the summer season. Opt for a tailored pair that can be dressed up with a blouse and heels for a more polished look, or paired with a casual t-shirt and sneakers for a laid-back vibe. Denim shorts are a timeless choice, but don't be afraid to experiment with different colors and patterns to add variety to your wardrobe.
Another essential summer item is a stylish and functional swimsuit. Whether you prefer a classic one-piece or a trendy bikini, finding a swimsuit that flatters your body type and makes you feel confident is key. Look for swimsuits with adjustable straps, underwire support, and tummy control features to ensure a comfortable fit.
Lastly, a lightweight and versatile summer dress is a wardrobe staple. Opt for a style that can be easily dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. A simple sundress in a vibrant color or a floral print is a timeless choice that can be worn to a casual brunch or dressed up with accessories for a summer wedding.
Every body is unique, and it's important to dress in a way that flatters your individual shape. Here are some styling tips for different body types to help you look and feel your best this summer.
For those with an hourglass figure, embrace your curves by opting for form-fitting dresses or tops that accentuate your waist. Wrap dresses and tops with a defined waistline are particularly flattering for this body type. Pair them with high-waisted bottoms to create a balanced and proportionate look, check out our women summer shorts for the latest women fashion trends.
If you have a pear-shaped body, focus on highlighting your waist and balancing out your proportions. A-line dresses and skirts that flare out from the waist are a great option. Pair them with a fitted top to draw attention to your upper body. Avoid bottoms with excessive detailing or embellishments, as they can add bulk to your hips. When building your wardrobe essentials, consider adding some linen dresses to your collection.
For those with an apple-shaped body, the key is to create definition at the waist and draw attention away from the midsection. Opt for empire-waist dresses or tops that cinch just below the bust. Flowy maxi dresses, a timeless choice in women fashion, and high-waisted bottoms can also help create a balanced silhouette. If you are looking for sustainable fashion options, consider investing in eco-friendly materials for your wardrobe.
If you have a rectangular body shape, the goal is to create curves and add dimension to your figure. Look for dresses and tops with ruffles, draping, or peplum details to add volume. Belted dresses and tops can also help create the illusion of a defined waist, enhancing your personal style. Experiment with different patterns and prints to add visual interest to your outfits.
Remember, these are just general guidelines, and the most important thing is to wear what makes you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin. Incorporating these women fashion trends into your summer wardrobe can help you express your unique sense of style while staying true to your personal preferences.
When it comes to summer fashion, considering sustainable fashion and wardrobe essentials becomes crucial. It is important to have dresses made from linen and cotton as they are must-have pieces in any women's fashion trends, offering both style and comfort. Linen dresses, in particular, are highly sought after due to their breathability and effortless elegance, making them the perfect choice for warm weather, check out our linen mini dresses to linen maxi dress selection for stylish summer. The flowy maxi dresses made from linen, called line dresses, allow you to embrace the carefree spirit of summer while staying fashion-forward. On the other hand, cotton dresses are equally popular and play a significant role in women's fashion. The lightweight and breathable nature of cotton dresses make them a go-to choice for casual outings or beach days. Whether it's a breezy sundress or a classic wrap dress, organic cotton dresses provide versatility and comfort, making them an essential part of your summer wardrobe. Elevate your summer fashion game by adding linen dresses and cotton dresses to your collection of wardrobe essentials, especially maxi dresses, which are a prominent feature in women fashion trends.
In recent years, sustainable swimwear has gained significant attention for its eco-friendly materials and ethical production practices. Swimwear made from recycled polyester or recycled plastic bottles is more eco-conscious fashion. These swimsuits are not only fashionable but also prioritize ethical labour practices and transparent supply chains.
When shopping for sustainable swimwear, look for brands that offer versatile styles and timeless styles to add to your capsule beachwear fashion. By choosing sustainable swimwear, you can make a fashion statement while actively supporting ethical and eco-conscious practices in the fashion industry. Check our section of a wide range of swimwear, from pieces of swimsuits to bikinis, from bright colours and prints to classy black bikini. No summer outfit is complete without the perfect accessories. Not only do they add a finishing touch to your look, but they also serve a practical purpose by providing sun protection. One accessory that is both stylish and functional is a hat, a vital women fashion trend. Not only does it shield your face and neck from the sun's rays, but it also adds a touch of glamour to your summer ensembles. Another summer essential is a stylish pair of sustainable sunglasses. Not only do they protect your eyes from harmful UV rays, but they also add a cool and sophisticated vibe to your overall look. Choose a shape that flatters your face shape, whether it's oversized aviators, cat-eye frames, or classic wayfarers. When it comes to summer fashion, maxi dresses and linen dresses are women fashion essentials. They provide comfort and style while also being a part of sustainable fashion efforts. Including these wardrobe essentials in your summer rotation will ensure that you are on-trend and fashion-forward and accessories and jewellery can add change up the style of any outfit.
In recent years, there has been a growing emphasis on sustainable and ethical fashion, with consumers becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental and social impact of the fashion industry. It is in response to this demand that MiliMilu was created, joining the ranks of brands that are stepping up to offer sustainable and ethically made clothing options.
When it comes to shopping for sustainable women's fashion trends this summer, it is important to consider supporting brands that prioritize sustainability and also support local businesses. By doing so, you can contribute to the growth of the local economy and reduce the carbon footprint associated with long-distance shipping. Look for sustainable women's fashion made from organic or recycled materials, such as linen dresses, organic cotton maxi dresses, organic cotton tops, tencel dresses and recycled polyester swimwear. These materials reduce the demand for new resources and minimise waste and pollution.
In addition to choosing sustainable materials, it is equally important to support brands that follow fair trade practices and ensure safe working conditions for their employees. By doing so, you can help promote social justice and improve the lives of garment workers around the world.
Another way to embrace sustainable fashion is by shopping secondhand. Thrift stores, consignment shops, and online platforms offer a treasure trove of unique and affordable wardrobe essentials for women's fashion. By giving pre-loved items a second life, you can reduce waste and contribute to a circular economy.
In conclusion, as the fashion industry continues to evolve, it is crucial to make conscious choices that align with our values and contribute to a more sustainable and ethical future. By supporting brands that prioritise sustainability, shopping secondhand, and promoting fair trade practices, we can all play a part in creating a more responsible and environmentally friendly fashion industry.

]]>This personal journey ignited a spark within Jade, propelling her to seek innovative solutions for the sleep struggles that all to frequently affect babies and toddlers. Fast forward to today, and The Holistic Sleep Edit stands tall as a testament to Jade's passion and dedication. For five years and counting, with hundreds of well-rested families to vouch for it, this business continues to thrive and evolve, offering invaluable support to those facing the daily challenges of parenting.
Living alongside her delightful family – Myla (9), Theo (6), and her husband Harsha – she embraces a lifestyle filled with exploration, travel, a love for the great outdoors, and a commitment to a healthy way of living!
Jade offers a hand held holistic service as a comprehensive sleep coach, providing an all-encompassing transformative experience. She adeptly leads parents through a step-by-step journey, navigating them from their current sleep challenges to the ultimate achievement: empowering their child to sleep independently, seamlessly transitioning through the night without the continual need for resettling support.
Unlike one-off educational sessions available abundantly online, Jade's approach is distinctive. Her service is a thorough, laser-focused journey where she evaluates, tracks, and collaborates with parents from start to finish, making sure no stone is left unturned, allowing her to truly get you the results you’re looking for. No two cases are the same, and Jade, with her methodical, holistic, and supportive approach, addresses each situation, fully adapting to the unique needs of your child.
Often, she can resolve challenges without the necessity for self-soothing strategies at all, achieving positive outcomes through adjustments and optimisation of the fundamental foundations of sleep. Over a 3-4 week period, she dedicates time to each individual family that she works with to solidify lifelong habits, ensuring a thorough understanding and successful implementation.
While achieving sound sleep is undoubtedly a luxury for the entire family, the primary motivation lies in the health, physical and cognitive development of the child. Recognizing sleep as a foundational pillar of health, Jade emphasises its profound impact on overall well-being. As families embrace this transformative journey, they not only experience the luxury of restful nights but also witness positive effects on their health, attention spans, and alertness as they approach each new day. With Jade at the helm, families can trust they are in capable hands for this important journey.
Both adults and children can significantly improve their sleep quality by adhering to essential sleep foundation principles. Every minute detail works together to establish a consistent sleeper, and rarely is a single factor solely responsible for the challenges you might face. Her approach considers a comprehensive range of factors, including the environment, activity levels, daylight and artificial exposure, routines and rituals, sleep schedules and distribution, emotional well-being, and, specifically for children, their self-soothing ability. Rather than jumping immediately to self-soothing, often mistakenly considered a quick fix by parents, she thoroughly addresses and optimises these multiple factors first. This holistic approach ensures a successful resolution within a remarkably short timeframe, in a supportive and gradual manner, when executed correctly.
Jade advises that the initial step in addressing your child's sleep challenges is to take a holistic perspective of their entire 24-hour day. What is their daily routine like? How is their nutrition and milk intake? What emotional connections do they have with the person putting them to sleep? How conducive is their sleeping environment? Are their nap timings and durations tailored to their specific sleep needs, avoiding generic recommendations from books and online sources?
After thoughtful consideration and necessary adjustments, you can then explore how your baby learns to fall asleep. It is only at this point that you should contemplate developing a more independent sleep-settling style. Attempting self-soothing techniques before addressing these foundational factors is unlikely to yield success, and the process may not be as seamless. Jade skillfully navigates all these elements, preparing your baby to receive self-soothing strategies in a gentle and well-adapted manner, leading to more serene and blissful nights.
Embracing a sustainable lifestyle holds great significance for Jade's family. Actively incorporating eco-friendly practices into their daily lives, Jade consistently imparts this ethos to her children, instilling in them the values of environmental stewardship. With a commitment to nurturing the next generation of environmentally conscious leaders, Jade has chosen a school for her children that places a 100% focus on the environment and sustainability, setting a powerful example for the kind of education that aligns with her family's values.
In their pursuit of sustainability, Jade and her family adopt regular practices such as minimizing waste, opting for clothing and apparel from sustainable brands like MiliMilu, a personal favourite for children's wear. Although not strictly vegetarian, the family has consciously shifted towards predominantly vegetarian meals at home during the week in recent years, aiming to reduce the impact of meat consumption. Through these deliberate choices and lifestyle adaptations, they are always looking to create a sustainable legacy and contribute to a greener future.
Most weekends, you'll invariably find Jade and her family near the beach. The ocean has always been a love for Jade, and this connection naturally extends to her children, who have embraced the water since their early days.
Beyond the beach, mountains play an equally significant role in their lives. Passionate about hiking, trail running, and outdoor exploration, the family revels in all activities in the great outdoors. Their love for sport is central to their identity, evident in the daily non -negotiable morning bootcamp ritual shared by Jade and her husband—a routine which is now followed with ice bath dips before the workday commences.
Their active and healthy lifestyle extends to various pursuits such as paddle boarding, padel, yoga and pilates and any activity that keeps them on the move, especially in the great outdoors. Furthermore, Jade´s husband is a Breathwork Coach who works closely with individuals, guiding them towards better physical and mental health and also enhancing their sports performance. Jade and their children are lucky to have this skill set at their fingertips, which helps the family to foster greater peace of mind and presence. The themes of The Year of the Wood Dragon: Light, Leadership and Power.
This will be a year in which the collective will have these 3 themes on the top of their mind throughout the year.
Light: Working through our old stories and beliefs around not being seen or not allowing ourselves to be seen. This year we will be met with opportunities and thoughts that invite us to surrender more deeply into ourselves and give permission towards self to shine our light even brighter into the world creating more positive change within ourselves and within our communities.
Journal Prompt for self: How can you share your light with others unapologetically for the betterment of the world?
Leadership: Many of us will feel this new surge of motivation to step up in different ways this year. No matter what role you hold in life whether in personal or career life - there will be moments for us to lead with more authenticity and purpose.
Journal prompt for self: How am I being called to lead this year? How can I impact others towards positive change this year through my passion and purpose?
Power: THIS is a major global theme this year. The misuse of power in the past, how it’ll be reconciled, how power will be alchemised of its darker connotations into a source and fuel for good.
Journal prompt to self: How can I harness the power for good within me to create lasting impact within the community? Where can I speak up for injustices to become an instigator for positive change?
There were a few themes of self-discovery, self love and purification of life for the Chinese Zodiac signs. So before we begin the year of the Wood Dragon it would be supportive to take inventory of your entire life — to inquire with self, what’s been going well, what needs to be released, what your new values and intentions are for the new year and how you will hold yourself accountable for the next 12 months. When life feels frantic, always create space to quiet the mind and pour back into your self love practices to gain deeper clarity.
For those who want an energetic cleanse+ reset: Smudge your home (with sage) with windows open with an intention to release all lower vibrations, clearing stagnant energies from your home, space, objects and aura to reset the energies before the new year. Set an intention of what you do want to call in after the smudging.

As an individual, business owner and a parent, my views on a sustainable lifestyle are deeply rooted in my desire to create a better place for future generations. The choices we make today have a significant impact on the world we leave behind for our children and future generations.
As a business owner, we can make a difference through policy changes and corporate responsibility in driving systemic change within our organisation. Through supportive initiatives, we can inspire other businesses and team members to lead my example and hope that others will follow.
Sustainability is not just an individual effort; it requires collective action to create lasting impact.
By making conscious choices and influencing others through our actions and advocacy, we can work together to create a better world for our children and ensure a brighter future for all.
Harper’s a sponge so I try to lead by example. She learns a great deal by observing my behavior and daily habits.
Read books: We are a family of book lovers so I choose books that celebrate themes around sustainability and environmental conservation. It’s always fun to check in with her after to learn what she received from the book to spark meaningful discussions and get her mind curious on how she can apply it into daily life.
Connect with nature: Spend time outdoors with your daughter and encourage her to explore and appreciate nature. Teach her about the importance of biodiversity and the role of ecosystems in maintaining a healthy planet.
Resourcefulness and minimalism: Help your daughter understand the value of resources and the importance of minimizing waste. Teach her to reuse items, repair instead of replacing, and appreciate the things she has.
Celebrate successes: Celebrate your daughter's efforts and successes in adopting sustainable practices. Positive reinforcement will motivate her and reinforce the importance of sustainability.
Harper and I love the sun and water so beach days are our favourite nature hang out. We love picking seashells and building sandcastles together while spotting different types of wildlife on the beach.

In fashion, one of the main focuses is sustainability/eco-friendly fashion in 2024. With growing concerns about global warming, we have already noticed its effects, such as extreme weather changes and conditions, iceberg drifting, and storms. Of course, we cannot blame it all on fashion, but fashion is the second most polluting industry in the world after the oil and gas sector.
]]>Governments and unions are getting more involved with new regulations. Crackdown on greenwashing claims, known as the Green Claims Directive, should limit false claims. The proposal shows that any green claims made need to be independently verified and proven with scientific evidence, while new public environmental labelling schemes will be banned unless developed at the EU level, and consumers will be able to check and verify the information. We can just hope that other countries will follow it. Most of MiliMilu's clothing, including most of the fabrics, is produced in the EU. Other new legislation is on its way in the EU approving new eco-design legislation, including a ban on destroying unsold textiles and footwear products.
As the world becomes more environmentally conscious, mainstream fashion is also beginning to take steps towards sustainability. With new regulations in place and consumers demanding more eco-friendly options, many mainstream brands are starting to incorporate recycled materials, organic fabrics (organic cotton Tencel, linen), fabric blends and other incentives for a greener future into their collections. This shift towards sustainable fashion is a positive direction for the industry, but it is essential to recognise that it will take time and effort to bring about real change. While we are still a long way from achieving complete sustainability, every step in the right direction is a step towards a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
It is expected that the competition in the fast-fashion industry will become more intense in the coming year. The main fast fashion giants are leading the charge by altering their strategies in terms of pricing, customer experience, and speed. The success of these main leaders and established players would depend on their capacity to adjust to changing consumer behaviour while also complying with regulations that could affect the industry.
The sustainable practices of big brands are evolving, and they are innovating in various ways to become more environmentally conscious. We will see more of circular practices this year, such as repairing, reselling, and renting products, which helps minimise waste. MiliMilu has partnered with Retykle on the 'Buy now and Sell later program' for kids' clothing to make fashion more circular and extend the lifespan of clothing. There is also a growing trend towards developing eco-friendly materials, such as non-toxic dyes and alternatives to traditional leather. Examples of these alternatives include mushroom leather (mycelium) and pineapple leather (Piñatex), which are increasingly gaining popularity due to their sustainable nature.
In addition, the fashion industry is also exploring new materials such as seaweed yarn, as seen in Stella McCartney's SS24 collection. Such innovations in sustainability are very promising, and the technologies for fabric recycling, reusing, and water filtration are also advancing rapidly. As a result, it is now possible to filter water and use it in production, achieving a fully circular system, which is a significant step towards becoming more sustainable.
Overall, it is exciting to see such advancements in sustainable practices, and we can expect more innovations in the future that will help reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry.
Since its breakthrough year in 2023, generative AI has been gaining more attention as an innovative and transformative technology. As such, an increasing number of use cases are being identified and applied across a wide range of industries, showcasing the potential of this technology to revolutionise the way we live and work.
AI is getting more advanced with new programs not just for marketing and writing but also for designing, sampling and going into production planning that can help reduce wastage. Picture a future where supply chains are managed by intricate algorithms that leverage real-time data analysis to optimise every step of the process. These algorithms would minimise waste and inefficiencies by predicting and adapting to changes in demand, inventory levels, and transportation conditions. First thing’s first: weaning. Navigating the journey of introducing solid foods to your little one is a monumental step in their development. Embracing the philosophy of baby-led weaning goes beyond merely introducing new foods; it's about fostering a sense of self-sufficiency and independence right from the start and a positive relationship with food. Baby led weaning encourages infants to take an active role in their own feeding journey. Rather than spoon-feeding purees, this method allows babies to explore a variety of textures and tastes independently, and at their own pace. By placing age-appropriate finger foods within their reach, you're not just feeding them - you're nurturing their innate curiosity while helping them develop their fine motor skills.
Beyond the practicalities, baby led weaning nurtures a positive relationship between your child and food, which is so critical as they grow. It allows them to develop preferences, explore textures, and understand the concept of satiety. As they embark on this culinary adventure, the focus shifts from the quantity consumed to the joy of discovering diverse tastes and developing a lifelong appreciation for wholesome nutrition.
Navigating the world of solid foods is a significant milestone for toddlers. Introducing them to purpose-designed kids' cutlery and baby cutlery not only aids in developing fine motor skills but also fosters a sense of independence. Look for kids' cutlery sets that are ergonomically designed for little hands, making it easier for them to grasp and control; we have sets that include training forks, training spoons and training knive.
The Milimilu kids cutlery collection is a fantastic example, featuring vibrant and child-friendly designs that add an element of fun to each meal. Crafted from durable, BPA-free materials, these utensils are not only safe for your child but also easy to clean, making them an ideal choice for busy parents who value convenience without compromising on quality.
Mealtime chaos can often revolve around the choice of the right kids silicone plates and suction bowls. Little eaters require a stable and engaging surface to explore their food. Opting for kid friendly plates and bowls can turn an ordinary meal into a less-stressful and more positive experience. Unbreakable and lightweight options are particularly practical for on-the-go parents. Enter the Milimilu range of kids plates and bowls. Constructed from high-quality, lightweight materials (100% LFGB grade silicone, which is hypoallergenic and free of harmful chemicals) and BPA free, these essentials are not only durable but come in a variety of captivating designs that engage the imagination. As an added bonus, the silicone means that they are unbreakable, ensuring a hassle-free dining experience whether at home or out and about. The whole collection is also easy to take with you, on picnics, hikes, camping, or just out for the day - the versatility of Milimilu’s kids eco plates and toddler bowls make every mealtime - wherever you are - stress-free and outdoor eats much easier. They are also easy to clean and dishwasher safe. The carefully crafted designs add a touch of whimsy, making it an engaging experience for your little one.
Making mealtime and baby led weaning more enjoyable for your child involves creating an environment that sparks curiosity and joy. Choosing eco-friendly silicone kids plates, bowls, and cups made from silicone, as well as baby led weaning kids cutlery, can add an extra layer of positivity to your dining rituals. The Milimilu collection, epitomizing the baby led weaning meaning, embraces this ethos, offering products made from sustainable materials that are gentle on the planet.

Circular fashion is far more than just a buzzword; it's a shift that challenges the linear approach that has long defined the industry. This sustainable clothing model envisions a system where garments have a life beyond their initial purchase. A system where materials are sourced responsibly, products designed for longevity, and waste minimised. MiliMilu's collaboration with Retykle positions the brand at the forefront of this movement, heralding a bright new era of conscious consumerism in sustainable clothing and environmentally aware fashion.
So how are MiliMilu and Retykle helping this circular fashion revolution, and what does this mean? MiliMilu, who already makes a difference thanks to their commitment to sustainable clothing, is taking it a step further.. The partnership between MiliMilu and Retykle elevates circular fashion with their ‘buy now and sell later’ programme.
The steps are simple: first of all, throughout your purchasing journey, you can see the estimated resale value or your purchases as you add them to your basket. Then, when it comes time to sell, not only will they find the buyer for you, but Retykle will pick it up, from your home, for free! Finally, once you've sold your items, you can withdraw your earnings as either cash or store credit, ready for your next purchase journey!
So embrace the sustainable clothing movement with MiliMilu and Retykle!
Let’s take a look in more detail at the ten elements of this partnership, and how it can help make circular fashion an everyday reality:
The road to sustainable clothing should be paved with simplicity. Recognizing this, Retykle, a trailblazer in circular fashion, plays a crucial role in streamlining the resale process. With product details and images readily available, the resale of gently worn clothes becomes not only an eco-conscious choice but a convenient, efficient process. This collaboration acts as a bridge, connecting the realms of purchasing and reselling, making sustainable clothing more accessible for all those wanting to actively participate in sustainable practices, as well as an additional means of earning from being eco-conscious.
A key feature that sets this programme apart is the unprecedented transparency it brings to the resale process. The resale value of each item is directly linked to its level of wear, with items categorised into different tiers to reflect their condition. This level of transparency empowers customers to make informed decisions around sustainable clothing, offering insights into the durability and quality of MiliMilu products. It's not just about buying and selling; it's about fostering a deeper understanding of the inherent value in circular fashion, contributing to a more conscious and informed consumer base.
The ‘buy now and sell later’ programme transcends the realm of sustainable clothing; it's about rewarding customers for their commitment to making eco-conscious choices and embracing circular fashion. By actively participating in this initiative, customers not only contribute to minimising waste but also gain the opportunity to earn money back. This win-win relationship between sustainability and reward amplifies the impact of every purchase, transforming it into a conscious investment in a more sustainable future.
The circular fashion element of ‘buy now and sell later’ is a beacon of empowerment, transforming each customer into an active participant in the ‘sustainable clothing revolution’. The act of extending the life of a garment through resale is not just a transaction. It's a conscious decision to minimise environmental impact. By choosing sustainable clothing, customers become advocates for change, influencing not only their immediate circles but also contributing to a larger shift in consumer behaviour.
MiliMilu recognises the importance of education in fostering a sustainable, circular fashion mindset. As part of this program, they aim to provide educational resources and insights into the environmental impact of sustainable clothing and fashion choices. From blog posts discussing the lifecycle of clothing, to informative guides on making eco-friendly, circular fashion decisions, MiliMilu seeks to empower the community with knowledge, making sustainable clothing an integral part of their lifestyle.
Collaboration is at the heart of MiliMilu's sustainability journey. The partnership with Retykle is not just a collaboration between two brands; it's an invitation for customers to join a movement towards a future that has more of a focus on sustainable clothing. By actively participating in the ‘buy now and sell later’ circular fashion programme, customers contribute to a shared mission, creating a collective impact that extends beyond individual actions.
As the programme evolves, MiliMilu is committed to pushing the boundaries of circular design. The brand envisions a future where every garment is not only created with longevity in mind, but is designed for easy disassembly and recycling. Circular fashion design principles will be at the forefront of MiliMilu's creative process, ensuring that each collection is a testament to innovation and sustainability.
MiliMilu understands the importance of accountability in the pursuit of sustainable clothing. The brand is dedicated to implementing robust impact measurement mechanisms to track the environmental and social footprint of its initiatives. Regular updates and reports will be shared to provide transparency and foster a sense of shared responsibility in the journey towards a more sustainable, circular fashion-centric future.
Recognising the interconnected nature of the fashion industry, MiliMilu actively seeks global partnerships to drive change. The brand is exploring collaborations with like-minded organisations, NGOs, and initiatives that align with its vision for more sustainable clothing and an equitable circular fashion ecosystem. By joining forces with others committed to change, MiliMilu aims to amplify its impact.
MiliMilu's commitment to sustainable clothing is in no way static; it's a journey of continuous improvement. Customer feedback and insights play a key role in shaping the brand's sustainability roadmap. Through surveys, focus groups, and direct communication, MiliMilu seeks to understand the evolving needs and expectations of its community, ensuring that sustainability initiatives remain customer-centric and relevant, with a more circular fashion culture taking shape.
Every garment's journey, from creation to eventual resale, sets off a ripple effect within the industry. It challenges the standard narrative that fashion is disposable, encouraging a more thoughtful and circular fashion-based approach. The ripple effect extends beyond the individual customer too, influencing peers, communities, and, ultimately contributing to a collective mindset shift towards sustainable clothing.
While the ‘buy now and sell later’ ethos marks a significant step in MiliMilu's sustainable clothing journey, the brand envisions a holistic approach that extends beyond individual transactions. MiliMilu is exploring initiatives that address the entire supply chain - from sourcing and production to packaging and shipping. The goal is to create a comprehensive and interconnected system that minimises environmental impact at every stage.
MiliMilu's collaboration with Retykle goes beyond the transactional realm of fashion. It's a commitment to fostering a lifestyle that can start with sustainable clothing choices. By embracing circular fashion and the ‘buy now and sell later’ initiative, a catalyst for change can be created. It's an invitation for customers to be part of a movement that values conscious choices, environmental stewardship, and a collective vision for a better, more sustainable future.
As MiliMilu continues to evolve its sustainable clothing initiatives, the brand invites its community to actively participate, provide feedback, and join in the journey towards circular fashion and a more sustainable world—one garment at a time.

There are numerous advantages of Merino wool, from environmental sustainability to properties that make it an ideal choice for both fashion and function. So, if you're ready to embrace the warmth and versatility of Merino wool, discover why it's the smart choice for those who care about both style and the planet.
One of the most compelling reasons to choose Merino wool is its eco-friendliness. Merino wool is derived from the fleece of Merino sheep (primarily raised in countries like New Zealand and Australia). The production of Merino wool follows environmentally responsible practices, making it a top pick for those who prioritise sustainable fashion.
Unlike synthetic materials, Merino (like all types of wool) is biodegradable. Sheep also regrow their fleece, which can (and should) be sheared annually. Additionally, Merino sheep farming promotes healthy soil and pastures, contributing to overall land sustainability.
One of the most compelling attributes of Merino wool is its unparalleled comfort and softness. It's exceptionally gentle to the skin, making it an excellent choice for those who prefer itch-free, snug accessories or suffer from skin irritation or eczema. A Merino wool hat or scarf feels luxurious to the touch, ensuring that you stay cosy and comfortable even in the harshest of winters.
Merino fibres are also finer and thinner than most regular wool, so they don't have extra weight (many wool jumpers are very heavy and bulky). This makes it a fantastic option for layering without sacrificing style or comfort. You can effortlessly pair your Merino wool accessories with various outfits, without adding unwanted bulk.
Merino wool has an incredible ability to regulate your body temperature. It keeps you warm when it's cold and cool when it's warm. This natural property makes Merino wool ideal for year-round wear, including the unpredictable transitional seasons of autumn and spring! Whether you're facing a frosty winter morning or a crisp spring evening, a Merino wool hat or scarf will help you stay just the right temperature.
This is down to the wool's unique structure. It can trap air, which acts as insulation when it's cold, while also allowing your body to breathe in warmer conditions. This versatility ensures you're always comfortable, no matter the weather.
Another significant advantage of Merino wool is its moisture-wicking properties. Unlike synthetic materials that tend to trap moisture and leave you feeling uncomfortable, Merino wool efficiently absorbs and evaporates sweat, keeping you dry and fresh. This is particularly valuable for accessories like hats and scarves, as they're often worn close to the skin.
So, whether you're hitting the ski slopes, going for a brisk morning jog, or simply enjoying a day of city exploration, your Merino wool hat will help you keep comfortable and dry.
For active individuals, odour resistance is a crucial feature in any clothing item. Nothing can be more bothersome during a strenuous workout or a long day of travel than having to contend with unpleasant odours. Fortunately, Merino wool comes to the rescue with its remarkable built-in defence against the scourge of unwanted odours. Its natural antimicrobial properties are not just a mere luxury but a game-changing feature for those leading active lifestyles.
Merino wool's unique ability to prevent the growth of odour-causing bacteria sets it apart from other fabrics. This property is particularly valuable for individuals who are always on the move; the last thing you want to worry about when exploring new destinations or pushing your physical limits is the smell that can emanate from your clothing after prolonged use.
The antimicrobial properties of Merino wool create an environment within the fabric that is hostile to the bacteria responsible for unpleasant odours. It's like having a natural shield that ensures your clothing stays fresh, even when you're not! This makes Merino wool an ideal choice for travellers, hikers, runners, and anyone who values both comfort and hygiene. With Merino wool, you can focus on your daily activities without the distraction of worrying about odours.
Merino wool accessories are not only versatile and comfortable but also easy to care for, contrary to popular belief. In addition to their remarkable odour resistance, Merino wool's self-cleaning quality adds another layer of convenience to their maintenance. This natural attribute means that Merino wool items inherently repel dirt and dust, rendering them less prone to staining. This quality is essential for those who love to stay active, as it helps keep your accessories looking fresh and presentable even in challenging outdoor conditions.
When it's finally time for a wash, caring for your Merino wool accessories is a breeze. Most Merino wool items are machine-washable, making the cleaning process hassle-free. Utilise the gentle cycle setting to maintain the integrity of the fabric while efficiently removing any accumulated dirt or perspiration. This not only saves you time and effort but also ensures that your beloved Merino wool accessories continue to serve you well.
To preserve the quality and longevity of your favourite Merino wool accessories, it's advisable to follow the care instructions on the label diligently. This small effort will go a long way in ensuring that your Merino wool items maintain their softness, insulation, and breathability, allowing you to enjoy their comfort and functionality for years to come. So, whether you're donning a Merino scarf for an urban commute or layering up with Merino gloves for a winter adventure, you can do so with the confidence that care and maintenance are a straightforward process, and your accessories will remain in excellent condition.
Fashion-forward and eco-conscious individuals will appreciate the timeless elegance of Merino wool accessories. Whether you opt for a classic Merino wool hat, a cosy scarf, or gloves, these pieces have a versatile, enduring style that effortlessly complements a variety of outfits. The refined texture and softness of Merino wool adds a touch of sophistication to any look, making it a wardrobe staple.
In the world of sustainable fashion, Merino wool is an eco-conscious fashion option that shouldn’t be overlooked. From sustainable production to exceptional comfort, temperature regulation and moisture-wicking properties, Merino wool is the ideal choice for those who seek the perfect blend of fashion and function.
So, whether you're in need of a warm and stylish Merino wool hat to brave the winter or a set of versatile Merino wool accessories to enhance your wardrobe, rest assured that you're making a wise choice for both your comfort and the planet. Embrace the warmth of Merino wool and take a step toward a more sustainable and stylish wardrobe.

]]>1.Embrace breathable fabrics:
When it comes to dressing your kids, but also yourself for summer, prioritizing breathable fabrics is key. Opt for natural fibers, such as cotton and linen. They allow air circulation and keep your skin cool and comfortable. These fabrics are also gentle on sensitive skin and help prevent rashes caused by excessive heat and sweat.
2. Lightweight and loose-fitting:
In hot weather, such as we see it in Hong Kong during summer, it is crucial, especially for your kids to dress in lightweight and loose-fitting clothing to prevent overheating. Flowy dresses, loose shorts, and airy tops are excellent options for girls, while boys can enjoy comfortable shorts and relaxed t-shirts. Avoid tight-fitting outfits that restrict movement and trap heat, which can lead to discomfort and irritability. The same applies to your own clothing: As a mom you will be on the go pretty much all the time and, thus you will feel so much more comfortable in breathable, airy dresses while being stylish at the same time.
3. Fun prints and colours:
Summer holidays call for vibrant and playful outfits that capture the essence of the season. Encourage your child’s creativity by opting for clothes with cheerful prints, tropical motifs, or nautical themes. Bright colours, like aqua blue, sunny yellow, and coral pink evoke the spirit of summer and make for beautiful vacation photos. Have you already seen our lemon-themed shirts, which we also have in a Mommy & Me version!?
4. Versatility for any occasion:
When packing for the summer holidays, it is essential to choose clothes that can transition seamlessly from one activity to another. Look for versatile pieces that can be dressed up or down, allowing you and your child to easily go from beach fun to an evening gathering. Consider packing a mix of casual outfits and a few dressier options for special occasions. Think clothes that can literally take you from the beach to the city. Our secret weapon for women at MiliMilu: dresses!
5. Practical Accessories:
In addition to clothing, sustainable accessories play a vital role in completing your child’s summer holiday wardrobe, think sunglasses, hats, hair clips and hair ties to name just the basics. When going out and about pack a lightweight and water-resistant backpack to carry essentials like sunscreen, water bottles, and snacks. Consider providing your child with a reusable diaper or a wet bag for the pool and beach days. Lastly, don’t overlook the importance of a soft and absorbent beach towel for drying off after a swim.
6. Sun protection is a must:
Protecting your child’s delicate skin from harmful UV rays is non-negotiable. Look for clothing with built-in sun protection, such as UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) fabric. Wide-brimmed hats, sunglasses, and lightweight, long-sleeved tops and pants can offer additional coverage. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen to exposed areas, regardless of the clothing they are wearing.

]]>Tencel, also known as lyocell, is a brand of cellulosic fiber derived from sustainably harvested wood pulp, created by Austrian company Lenzing AG. The fiber is generally derived from eucalyptus trees. They have the propriety to grow quickly and not needing hazardous chemicals or much water to thrive. Eucalyptus wood also is sustainable through its carbon sequestration. The trees grow rapidly, about 5m per year and can reach 30 m after 6 years. The wood used for the Tencel production comes from responsibly managed forests, making it an eco-friendly choice. The manufacturing process involves transforming the wood pulp into fibers through a closed-loop process, where the solvent used is recycled and reused. Tencel is also FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, awarded for forests that are managed in a way to preserve bio-diversity and that benefits the lives of local people while sustaining economic viability.
Tencel being the brand name for one lyocell, other lyocell fabrics are also available. The difference is utterly important though. While Tencel is being produced with wood coming from sustainably managed forests, other lyocell materials might come from non-sustainably managed sources. This results in forests being destroyed and the biodiversity being endangered.
Tencel stands out for its environmentally friendly production process. It is renowned for its low environmental impact. The closed-loop manufacturing system used in producing Tencel ensures that nearly 99% of the solvent and water are recovered, recycled and reused. This process minimizes the release of harmful chemicals into the environment, reducing the carbon footprint of the fabric. Additionally, Tencel production requires less water compared to other fabrics, making it a more sustainable choice.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Tencel is its biodegradability. When Tencel garments reach the end of their life cycle, they can naturally decompose, returning to the earth without causing harm to the environment. If the fiber does end up in the landfill it is decomposed within 6 to 24 months. This feature sets Tencel apart from synthetic fibers, such as polyester, which can take hundreds of years to break down. Moreover, Tencel fibers can be recycled and used to create new fabrics or blended with other materials, promoting a circular economy. This closed-loop system reduces waste and minimizes the need for virgin resources, further reducing the environmental impact of the fashion industry. Tencel by Lenzing is certified biodegradable and compostable.
Aside from its sustainable qualities, Tencel offers numerous benefits in terms of comfort and versatility. The fabric is known for its exceptional softness, making it a delight to wear. It has excellent moisture-wicking properties, keeping you cool and dry, which is especially advantageous in warm climates or during physical activities. Tencel is also very lightweight, resistant to wrinkles and has a luxurious drape, making it suitable for a variety of clothing items, including dresses, shirts, jeans, activewear and underwear.
Moreover, Tencel is hypoallergenic, making it an ideal choice for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies. The fabric’s smooth surface prevents irritation and allows the skin to breathe, promoting better overall comfort. Furthermore, Tencel has natural antibacterial proprieties, which helps inhibit the growth of bacteria and odor, keeping garments fresh and hygienic.
To maintain the quality and longevity of Tencel products, it’s essential to follow proper care instructions. Most Tencel items can be machine washed with cold water on a gentle cycle, such as wool or delicate cycle. Avoid using harsh detergents and bleach, as they can damage the fibers. The garments should be airdried or tumble-dried on a low heat setting to prevent shrinkage. Only use light steaming if needed and avoid ironing. Tencel keeps its shape and finish, even after frequent washing. Bonus tip: Flip your clothing inside out for further protection.
The fashion industry is notorious for its negative environmental impact, but there are alternatives, from buying less to capsule wardrobes and paying attention to the materials your clothes are made from. Tencel offers a sustainable alternative, and it is time to embrace its eco-friendly attributes. Its versatility, softness, and drape make it an appealing choice for creating high-quality garments. By incorporating Tencel into your wardrobe you can reduce your carbon footprint further and take your wardrobe to the next sustainability level. That way we all can contribute to the preservation of our planet while enjoying stylish and comfortable clothing.

]]>Sustainability seems to be the new buzz word in recent years, but it is more than that. It is the future. As of today we need about 1.75 planets to provide the resources for our consumption. As for the fashion industry over 92 millions tons of clothing end up in landfills around the world each year and only about 20% of all the textiles are collected to be reused or recycled. This being said, if we want to leave our children a livable planet, we have to change our consumption habits. One is our take on fashion.
The goal should be to consume less and to wear our clothes for longer. Choosing clothes that are made from organic, natural sources are a good step into the right direction. The sourcing of these garments is more friendly to the environment and the production of the garments reduces the use of chemicals and dyes that are a hazard for the environment and for human beings. Especially small children have thinner skin than adults and harmful chemicals can be absorbed easier. Another reason to choose organic clothing. In addition, these fabrics are high-quality and last longer, so you can enjoy them for a longer period of time. Making them also a good choice from a financial point of view.
Finally, it is important to set an example for our children and to teach them about the concept of sustainability from a very early age onwards. Incorporating a more sustainable lifestyle as a family can be done with a few easy steps that involve the children too. From bringing them closer to nature, to recycling to fashion.
Now how can you take a step towards more sustainable fashion, while not compromising on your need for comfortable and practical clothing as a busy mom?
Embrace timeless fashion
Investing in timeless pieces that never go out of style is key to building a sustainable wardrobe. Opt for classic cuts, neutral colors, and high-quality fabrics that will stand the test of time. Versatile staples like a well-fitted blazer, a pair of tailored jeans, or a little black dress can be easily mixed and matched to create numerous stylish outfits. Opt for high-quality, durable materials that will last for years, reducing the need for frequent replacements.
Opt for sustainable fabrics
Choose clothing made from sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton, linen, hemp, bamboo, or Tencel. These materials are produced using fewer chemicals, less water, and have a lower environmental impact compared to conventional fabrics. They are also comfortable and breathable, perfect for busy moms on the go.
Practise a capsule wardrobe.
Create a capsule wardrobe by curating a collection of versatile, high-quality clothing items that can be mixed and matched to create various outfits. By having a smaller, well-planned wardrobe, you can avoid impulse purchases and focus on building a collection of pieces you truly love and will wear frequently. This approach saves money, reduces clutter, and promotes sustainability. A well-curated capsule wardrobe will not only simplify your life but also contribute to a more sustainable fashion consumption pattern.
Extend the lifespan of your garments
Take proper care of your clothes to extend their lifespan. Follow the care instructions on garment labels, wash in cold water, air-dry when possible and mend any minor damages promptly, and store your clothes properly. By treating your clothes with care, you'll not only save money in the long run but also reduce your environmental impact by reducing the need for constant replacements.
Color palette and patterns
Choose a color palette that works for your skin tone and hair color and don’t be afraid to experiment with prints and colors to inject vibrancy into your mom wardrobe. Opt for prints like stripes, polka dots, or florals that are both stylish and forgiving when it comes to stains or spills. Introduce pops of color through accessories, such as vibrant scarves or bold statement handbags, to instantly liven up your outfits.
Mix and match
Instead of buying new outfits for every occasion, mix and match pieces in your wardrobe to create new looks. You can pair a classic blazer with jeans for a casual day out, or dress it up with a skirt and heels for a more formal event. By mixing and matching, you’ll be able to get more wear out of each item in your wardrobe.
Accessorize with purpose
Accessories can instantly elevate your style and add personality to your outfits. However, choose accessories that align with your lifestyle. Instead of delicate and easily tangled necklaces, opt for statement earrings or layered bracelets that are less likely to get caught on anything. Think bold sunglasses that are fashionable, but also protect your eyes from the summer sun. Utilize functional accessories like spacious tote bags or crossbody bags to carry all your mom essentials.
Shoes
Finding comfortable yet stylish footwear is crucial for moms on the go. Opt for supportive flats, sneakers, or low-heeled boots that provide both style and comfort. Look for shoes with cushioned insoles and adequate arch support to ensure your feet stay happy throughout the day. As a mom, you likely spend a lot of time on your feet, so comfortable shoes are a must. Fortunately, there are many stylish options that won’t sacrifice comfort. Sneakers, loafers, and ankle boots are all great options that can be dressed up or down. One of our personal favourites are eco friendly and sustainable shoes by Kibo.
Layers
Layering is a mom's best friend when it comes to creating stylish outfits. Not only does it add visual interest to your look, and create depth and texture, but it also allows for easy temperature regulation throughout the day and adaptation to your various activities. Invest in lightweight cardigans, stylish jackets, and scarves that can be layered over basic tops or dresses. This technique adds depth and versatility to your wardrobe.
Have fun with fashion and experiment
Don’t forget to have fun with fashion. Experiment with different styles and silhouettes to find what works for you and your lifestyle.
Speaking of fun: A very fun way to introduce your children to fashion and more so sustainable fashion is to try mommy & me matching outfits. Children love to dress up and wear clothes of people they love and admire, be it spiderman, princesses or mommy. Matching outfits enhance the self-esteem of children and strengthens the familial bonds, while creating a sense of belonging. It also has been scientifically proven that fun and laughter has incredible benefits. Happiness in childhood has been linked to healthy self-esteem and life satisfaction in adults. Dressing up together as a family is a great way to create happy memories and have your children grow more confident and surer of their actions later on. Now, how about that!?
In summary, being a stylish mom doesn't mean compromising on sustainability. By incorporating these tips into your daily routine, you can embrace a more eco-conscious approach to fashion without sacrificing your personal style. By choosing timeless pieces, shopping consciously, opting for sustainable fabrics, and practising capsule wardrobing, you'll create a wardrobe that makes you look and feel great while leaving a positive impact on the planet. Remember that sustainable fashion is not just a trend but a lifestyle choice that can benefit you, your children and the environment.

]]>When you think about which clothes you want your baby to wear you probably think about the following: The clothes should be comfortable and soft for baby and should not irritate its sensitive skin. It should be lightweight and should keep baby warm when it is cold and cool when it is hot. But, then should also be able to transmit sweat away from baby’s body. For you as a parent the clothes should be easy to put on baby and take off again when needed. Plus, you will want easy access for diaper changes. What if we told you that all of these boxes can be ticked off with the choice of the right materials, fixtures and quality clothes? At the same time, you for sure will want to avoid an excess of clothes that your baby will never wear, even more so considering that they grow fast, especially during the first year.
Did you know that an estimated 183 million pieces of children’s clothing, never worn or outgrown, go into the landfills in the UK alone each year? To avoid adding to the landfill, sustainable baby clothing would be our go-to. But then what makes sustainable baby clothing and how can it be fashionable and practical at the same time?
Quality is one of the key elements when it comes to sustainable clothing in general and especially when looking for baby clothing. Choose fabrics that are made from natural sources, even better organic sources, making them soft and breathable and at the same time durable. For baby clothing you will find mainly cotton, but linen, bamboo and wool can also be options. In addition, check the clothes for sturdy seams, buttons and zips that cannot easily break. You would not want for a piece or a button to find its way into baby’s mouth. While babies are gentle to their clothes in general, aside the occasional spit up or diaper accident, as soon as they start walking their clothes are in for a rough ride. Investing in high quality clothes that are made from more durable fabrics are a good start. They will last longer and you might even be able to pass them down to siblings or to family or friends.
With baby clothes, it is so important to make sure they are comfortable for the baby to wear. They should allow for free movement and not be hindering. As your baby grows older choose clothes that they can put on and remove themselves, or with minimal help. The clothes should also be able to regulate temperature to some extent and should not irritate baby’s skin.
Restriction of movement: If clothes are too small or too big, they hinder movement and thus your baby’s activities. They might be uncomfortable around the neckline, armholes, sleeves and waistlines and make it difficult to move. Clothing that is too big can twist around the body and make your baby trip.
Temperature regulation: Clothing plays an important role in regulating your baby’s temperature and making it feel comfortable. Clothes made from materials that are absorbent and allow ventilation and easily transport moisture away from baby’s body are the better choice. This one of the reasons why we are in love with (organic) cotton, but also linen.
Textiles that irritate baby’s skin: The skin of babies is about 20% thinner as adult skin. This makes it more prone to allergic reactions to scratchy fabrics, but also harmful chemicals and dyes and allergens which can penetrate the skin much faster.
During their first 2 years babies grow rapidly. You are in for a change of the entire wardrobe every few months or so. It makes it thus more sustainable to look for clothes that are versatile and that can be worn throughout the seasons by e.g. layering them. An adjustable waistband for pants or adjustable straps on overalls, are another option to make them more long-lived.
While you are in charge of what clothes to buy, once your baby is a bit older it will have its own preferences, their style, colors and prints. Don’t be afraid to embrace their style, even if it isn’t necessarily yours. Let them express themselves through their clothes and let it reflect their hobbies and interests. That way you are sure that they are happy and feel confident and comfortable in what they are wearing.
Don’t underestimate the power of accessories, even for babies. Every outfit will be elevated with a smart choice of accessories, such as sunglasses or hats. Your baby will look extra cool while also being protected from the sun, especially now that summer is just around the corner.
Your child will start helping to get dressed from a very young age onwards. As young as a few months they will start helping to put their arms and legs into the clothes, with your guidance. Once they start to be more independent and might want to do it all by themselves, you can avoid some fighting by choosing clothes that are easy to put on and take off again.
The longer your baby can wear its clothes, the better for the environment and the more sustainable for the earth, and also your purse. The difference lies in how you take care of the clothes. Stains, diaper accidents and dirt will inevitably be on the agenda. It is thus not only important to choose fabrics that are resilient to getting washed a lot, it is also important to observe some rules when it comes to washing the clothes.
In summary sustainable baby clothing is made of several key elements, including organic natural fibers, high quality clothing that baby and you love and gets worn more often over a longer period of time. Taking good care of the clothing especially during washing will give your favorite pieces a longer live too.
A great gift to our planet, but also to your little ones, who will love to wear comfortable clothes to play and enjoy. Feeling confident in their clothes will also support them in being more social, being more involved in diverse experiences and having a good emotional health. It is all about finding the right balance for you and your baby between comfort, functionality, practicality and personal style.
Enjoy your journey to find clothes that dress your baby in style in a sustainable fashion.

]]>Swimwear is one of those pieces of clothing that need to tick off quite a few boxes to make it an item you love to wear. It needs to be comfortable and functional, look good and should keep its original state and not be warped after a few wears and washes.
Considering that you move a lot in your swimwear, that you swim in it, but also wear it outside of the water, the fabric of your swimwear needs to be stretchy and elastic, water-repellent and dry quickly. Natural fibers are too absorbent and become misshaped when wet, which makes them not ideal to make swimwear of. This means that we look at synthetic fibers as a popular choice, because they offer everything you need in swimwear. Unfortunately, these fabrics, such as polyester, nylon or spandex are made from plastic-derivates that are created from petroleum. This makes them quite energy and resource intensive in production and also non-biodegradable once they have reached the end of their lifespan.
The solution to make swimwear sustainable and more eco-friendly is to look for recycled materials, such as recycled polyester, econyl. This gives a second life to plastic that already exists, keeps it out of the landfills and oceans and minimizes the use of virgin fossil fuels. Also, sustainable swimwear is designed to last for years. On top of these attributes the people involved in the production and manufacturing get paid fair wages and work under safe and respectful working conditions. A box that fast fashion items cannot necessarily tick.
Did you know that polyester is found in 52% of our clothes? With its characteristics of being stretchy, durable, moisture-absorbent and retaining its shape while resisting sweat and UV rays, polyester is nowadays a very popular choice in sportswear, activewear, fleeces, coats and of course swimwear.
Polyester is derived from petroleum which makes it a synthetic plastic-fiber. The transformation process releases toxins into the atmosphere and the production is energy and resource intensive. Recycled polyester on the other hand requires 59% less energy than virgin polyester and also generates up to 32% less CO2 during its production. Since recycled polyester is mainly made from recycled plastic bottles, it keeps plastic out of landfills and oceans. It still remains non-biodegradable, but overall, it is an eco-friendlier choice.
Recycling plastic has its limitations though, especially when it comes to garments. Often garments are mixed with other fibers which makes it difficult if not impossible to recycle. During the recycling process there often is a need to add some virgin material to keep the quality of the end product high. The process often involves a lot of redyeing which depending on the choices of dye can have a considerable impact on the environment.
Certifications can help you identify whether your swimwear fits the sustainability standards of a recycled garment. Look for the Recycled Claim Standard (RCS), the Global Recycled Standard and the Recycled Content Certification. They ensure that there is a robust chain of custody for your item and reduce the likelihood of mixing and swapping materials during the production process.
Being more sustainable in your buying habits and looking for recycled materials in your swimwear is the first step towards a more sustainable approach, but it does not stop there. Sustainable swimwear as all sustainable clothing for that matter is made to last and with a few best practices you can make sure that your swimwear has a long lifespan. It comes down to reducing our impact on the environment by needing less, and buying new things less often. So how do you take best care of your sustainable swimwear?
Bonus tip: When you do retire your swimwear, you can upcycle it into scrunchies and hair ties.
We have talked extensively about swimwear in general and the materials used to make them, but let’s also talk about sun protection swimwear. While swimwear in general is functional with the goal to cover the main parts of your body, sun protection swimwear goes a step further. It is essential when going to the beach, doing water sports or generally being outside for a longer period of time.
Sun protection swimwear or rash guards are designed to keep harmful UV rays away from your skin. The advantage here is that you are ready to jump into the fun as soon as you put it on. You don’t need to wait for the protection of sunscreen to kick in, which is about 20 minutes after applying. You also limit your application to exposed body parts, such as hands, feet, face and neck. Ideal for kids who might not like sunscreen and just in general to keep UV radiation away from your skin. UV radiation can cause skin issues, such as wrinkles, brown spots, sunburns and even cancer, so you should try to be as protected as possible.
Did you know that the skin of children is only about 1/5 of the thickness of adult skin which means that the skin barriers are less effective. Children are hence more delicate to sun exposure and can get sunburns even with a small amount of sun exposure. A rash guard is a must for the little ones (girls & boys) when playing at the beach or in the water.
When choosing sun protection swimwear pay attention to certain details. It should cover as much skin as possible and should fit snuggly without being too tight. The fabric should be woven tightly to keep UV rays at bay. With the UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) indication you can identify the level of protection offered by the swimwear in question. Look for UPF 50 or even UPF 50+ as these will block out over 95% of UVA and UVB rays.
A note on taking care of your rash guard: If not taking care of properly the protection will diminish over time. By stretching the fabric too much, through the way of washing and drying it or through wearing to tightly, more sun radiation will make it through the fabric and diminish the protection effects. The same care indications as for swimwear mentioned above apply here as well.
Also do not forget about hats and sunglasses who also have a major role to play in protecting you and your children against the sun. Luckily MiliMilu has some cute styles that can even take you from the beach to the city. If you wonder what to look out for when buying sunglasses for children, we got you covered.
When it comes to swimwear there sure is no perfect solution to make it sustainable and all the way eco-friendly, but buying swimwear made from recycled polyester or recycled nylon for that matter is the better option as it at least reduces the amount of virgin material used and uses materials that are already present waiting for their second life. And while recycling in general is a good thing, we should not forget that it is not enough. We also should keep in mind that buying less, but more of what we truly love in better quality that lasts longer is the more sustainable choice.

]]>The downside is that in todays’ world we follow a path of more is more and any holiday, birthday or meaningful event in our child’s life can lead us on a spending frenzy collecting gifts.
The worst part is that this way of gifting has a dramatic impact on the environment and is not sustainable. About 90% of all toys are currently made from plastic. Out of all the toys produced 13% are never played with. 80% of all toys end up in landfills, incinerators and the ocean where they endanger marine life. Plastic toys become part of the 14 million tons of plastic that end up in the ocean each year.
But what if we would take a step back and think about the actual meaning of gifting? How we could make that gifting moment more meaningful and first and foremost more sustainable, financially, but also from an environmental point of view? They say it is the thought that counts and a personal touch makes any gift more meaningful. While you can give things, you can also give experiences and sentiment (which could be cheap in procurement, but with a high benefit for the recipient). And this also works with children already. So how do you then go about sustainable gifting for children? How to be more eco-conscious when making presents?
Sustainable gifting minimizes the use of resources in general and focuses on the use of natural, bio-degradable and reusable materials. It can involve upcycling materials that have been used before and are repurposed. It also means that artisans are supported and all workers are paid fairly. In a nutshell, a sustainable gift will help reduce waste, be eco-friendly and ethical for everyone involved in the production.
To find gifts for children that make their eyes sparkle and happy for longer, while teaching them about sustainability and minimalism try to go by the rule of 4 gifts. This ensures that you have a guide when thinking about the gifts you will get your child and stay on track with limiting the gifts.
Usually, children have a pretty good idea about what they want. Especially if they keep talking about the same item over a longer period of time. While it might not be what we had in mind, this gift will make them happy. They get to choose and will probably play with this item longer just because it is what they wanted. Of course, you can always guide them towards eco-friendlier options.
What makes a toy eco-friendlier? The design, manufacturing and disposal of a sustainable toy is done in an environment friendly fashion. It is made of biodegradable materials, e.g. wood, cotton, bamboo, wool or recycled plastic, as well as non-toxic finishes that are not harmful to your children’s health and the environment. Sustainable toys are also designed to be more versatile and to last longer, thus reduce the need for replacements. By encouraging children to use their imagination and creativity to develop new ways of playing with them, these toys are interesting for a longer.
Finally, by purchasing sustainable toys you support ethical business practices, ensuring that fair labor standards are followed, workers are paid fair wages and the sourcing of materials is done responsibly. A cute example of a sustainable lovey, made from organic materials and gentle to your childs’ skin can be found in our MiliMilu shop.
As children grow up, they hit milestones, develop new interested or simply outgrow their clothes or toys. You might find that around gift giving time, they need a new pair of shoes, a new swimwear or that their room needs a new coat of color. They might have outgrown their toys and need some new items to stimulate their interest and development in a more age-appropriate way. It is up to you to decide what needs to be addressed, but of course, it will be beneficial to include your child in some of the decision making.
Every child’s wardrobe has items that need updating at any point during the year. They might have outgrown some items, seasons might change or some clothes simply have hit the end of their lifetime. Involve them in choosing their new favorite clothing item and make it a gift for them. When choosing clothes for your child opt for clothes from sustainable fashion brands to make sure you have a long-lasting, timeless item that last you longer while being gentle to your child’s skin and the environment. For adorable baby clothes, girls and boys items, sustainable underwear, as well as cute accessories look no further, as MiliMilu has you covered, of course.
Books are constant favorites with children, at least in our house. Books open up so many different universes to children and teach them about the magic in our world, but also about what goes on around them. Reading with your children from an early age has so many benefits for their development, such as stimulating curiosity and imagination. It also helps to develop social skills, communication skills, as well as training the ability to focus and to stimulate your child’s brain development. A real gift for their future.
On a side note: Not every gift needs to be a physical item, you could also gift experiences which requires little to no natural resources and are usually a memorable moment not only for your little one, but for the whole family. Experiences usually involve spending (bonding) time together, bring fun, learning and create memories for the years to come.
Another way of giving and at the same time teach your child about giving back to the community could be a donation to a local charity or animal welfare organization. It could involve adopting an endangered animal in your child’s name. You could also become a patron at the local zoo or animal shelter. Often these donations come with a certificate, that your child can treasure for the year to come. And you could go visit your new family member, so to speak.
Don’t forget to look beyond the actual present and take a minute to consider the sourcing of your gift as well as its wrapping. Once you have decided on a (sustainable) gift, research where you could buy this item. Shop locally whenever possible and look for quality items that will last you longer and avoid long transportation that have a negative impact on the environment.
Did you know that most wrapping paper can’t be recycled, because it is too thin, too laminated, too saturated or too sparkly? So, about think the packaging and more so the gift wrapping of your present. Choose eco-friendly alternatives and maybe the wrapping could actually be part of the gift. Textiles, reusable paper bags or the creative use of newspaper can work magic and be sustainable at the same time.
When in doubt about whether you want to go smaller next time when gift giving is around the corner, remember that kids are naturally curious and eager to learn about the world around them. There are many opportunities to teach them about sustainability and caring about the environment and gift giving is one of these opportunities. You might be surprised by the reaction of your child. “The best gifts are those which bring joy to the giver and the receiver – a gift that keeps on giving.”

You might have guessed it; we humans keep cool mainly through sweating. The evaporation of liquid transports to heat away from our bodies and hence has a cooling effect. In humid weather this mechanism is less performant though. For that reason, fabrics worn in hot and humid weather should be able to maximize the flow of air through the clothes and allow heat and moisture to escape away from the body. To ensure this, clothes with a loose fit made from natural, breathable fibers are particularly recommended. They soak up the moisture from the skin and transport it away from your body. That way they help to adjust your body temperature and to keep cool during hot weather.
If you have been following MiliMilu for a while, you know that we stand for natural, sustainable fabrics. Or recycled fabrics if all else fails and functionality plus comfort prevails over natural fabrics, like recycled polyester for swim wear. The most sustainable and accessible fabrics out there that tick all the boxes when it comes to keeping you cool and comfortable during hot weather are natural fibers, mainly cotton and linen. And we are absolutely in love with these both sustainable, organic fabric options.
Organic cotton is not only sustainable but also a top choice for fibers to wear in hot and humid weather conditions. It is soft, lightweight, and breathable. Cotton absorbs moisture and allows for the movement of air from your skin through the fabric. That way heat can be dissipated, humidity on your body is reduced and your skin is kept dry. The only downside is that cotton can become damp and takes a while to dry.
Look out for thinner, lighter fabrics in a flowy style to take advantage of the benefits cotton offers in hot and humid weather conditions.
Linen is the other top choice when it comes to fabrics that are good for hot weather conditions. It is also a natural, sustainable fiber and is light, cool, absorbent and very comfortable to wear. Woven loosely it allows for heat to escape away from your body, while absorbing moisture and drying quickly. It is malleable and doesn’t stick to your body as much. On top, linen fabrics are relatively stain-resistant and antibacterial by nature, can be machine-washed and will get clean even when washed at low temperatures or cold. Disadvantage of linen is it characteristic to wrinkled and crease easily. The more often you wash it though, the softer the fabric becomes which will in the long run create a gentle crease and make your piece of clothing even more flattering when worn.
Cotton and linen are for sure the most popular and widely available choices when it comes to cool and comfortable fabrics for summer heat, but merino wool is not to be dismissed. On the contrary. Especially for outdoor activities such as hiking merino wool is a popular choice for being a natural fiber with warming, but also cooling effects. The fiber is absorbent and helps to regulate your body temperature. It keeps your body insulated when the outside temperatures are cool but will also keep you cool when the temperatures are rising. These attributes make merino wool especially suitable for the active outdoors when your body temperature is likely to rise over the course of the day outside. It is also durable and does not trap body odor.
Unless you consider functional active wear that is designed to carry moisture away from the body during your activities, we recommend to stay away from synthetic fibers, such as polyester, acrylic and nylon. In hot and humid conditions these materials trap heat and will make you feel hot as they are not breathable. They also tend to trap body odors and bacteria.
While your instinct might tell you to wear as less as possible and choose the short options in your wardrobe, you might want to rethink this approach. Generally speaking, you want to choose clothes that are loose and comfortable and which allow for air circulation close to your body. The air will feel cool and help to keep your body dry, while preventing irritations, rashes, and skin infections. You might also want to choose light-colored fabrics that reflect the light and heat, rather than dark colors that tend to absorb heat much more. Think white, beige and pastel tones or even light patterns.
Here are some tips and tricks on how to style your outfit to get through a hot and humid summer day, whether you are headed for the office, the city or a night out later in the day.

As always, stay in touch and get the latest news from us at MiliMilu by following us on:
]]>Conventional cotton is one of the most chemical-intensive fibers. Up to thousands of different chemicals can be involved in the process from seed to t-shirt; some of them with poisonous effects on the people handling them and a harmful impact on the environment. For that reason, cotton is also sometimes referred to as the dirty crop. While this applies to the conventional variations of cotton, organic cotton is much gentler to the environment and people, for obvious health aspects, but also social aspects.
For us at MiliMilu sustainable fashion and organic cotton go hand in hand for many reasons, from the production of the fabric to its multiple benefits when worn on a daily basis. Therefore, this episode of our sustainable textile guide will be all about why we love organic cotton.
As it goes with everything that is grown in the soil, organic is usually better for the environment, the people working with the crop and also the end-consumer. Cotton is no exception. Organic cotton is grown with methods and materials that have a lower impact on the environment and the production process is also much more gentle for the planet and everybody involved.
In the organic cotton production, the use of various ancestral farming techniques is dominant. The farmers build a biologically diverse agriculture, growing different crops and rotating them to maintain the fertility of the soil. This also helps to maintain moisture in the soil and store rain. It is also beneficial for the biodiversity of insects which are used to keep pests at bay, reducing the need of insecticides and pesticides. And of course, the farmers are not exposed to harmful substances in the process. These techniques encourage a diverse wildlife and protect the topsoil.
On the other hand, large amounts of insecticides and pesticides are required in the conventional cotton production. Statistics show that about onone-fifthf the world’s pesticides are used on cotton alone. They end up in the waterways, destroying the environment and being harmful to animals and humans. Entering the food chain and water supplies, they cause diseases, illnesses and even congenital disabilities among the farmers and people living close to the cotton fields.
Organic farming in contrast grows cotton without the use of pesticides and insecticides and the seeds are not genetically modified. The farmers aim for sustainability and the use of fewer resources. Consequently, the land stays fertile longer and the quality of the grown cotton is better than conventionally grown cotton. This also results in 46% less CO2 emissions.
Often cotton is referred to as the thirsty crop. As much as 2700L can go into the production of one cotton t-shirt. Compared to conventionally grown cotton, organic cotton needs about 90% less water. Farmers rely mostly on rain to water their fields. The soil, being healthy, acts like a sponge and retains water better for when rainfall is sparse.
While the growing of cotton has a huge impact on the environment, it doesn’t stop there. The production process of cotton yarns and textiles also must be considered. In an organic, environment-friendly production fibers will be treated using nontoxic products that are safe for the environment and people. To dye the fabrics, a sustainable organic process will only allow for low-impact natural dyes that have a low metal and sulfur content. For printing only low-impact, water-based inks will be used. This reduces the use of thousands of different, harmful chemicals that are used in the conventional production. Workers are thus not put into harm and can work under safe and healthy conditions.
Using crop rotation and more sustainable farming techniques equals a more reliable income for farmers. They are not dependent on one crop only and are thus more resistant against price fluctuations on the cotton market. This promotes food security, higher financial returns to farmers and on top empowers women who make up about 10% of organic farmers worldwide.
Continuing down the line from crop to a t-shirt, using environment-friendly, sustainable production techniques in textile production also benefits the workers. They get to work in a safe, healthy, non-abusive, non-discriminatory environment that provides them with living wages.
We hope you are already convinced on how organic cotton is just better for the environment and the people involved. But there is more. Organic cotton also has many benefits and advantages for the end-consumer, especially babies and people with sensitive skin and allergies.
People with sensitive skin and allergies benefit from wearing organic cotton clothing, including babies and children whose skin is much more sensitive at a young age. Babies and young children absorb more of their environment through their skin as it is not yet as thick as adult skin. The epidermis part of their skin is actually three to five times thinner. As a result, it is less resistant, and substances can be absorbed more easily and penetrate deeper skin layers. For that reason, organic cotton, and other organic textiles for that matter, is beneficial as it limits the exposure of babies and children to potentially harmful chemicals through their clothes.
Organic cotton is much softer, looks good and feels amazing on your skin. It is hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types. And especially for people with chemical sensitivities and allergies, organic cotton can relieve their symptoms and provide them with more quality of life.
Cotton is breathable and absorbs moisture well. Actually, cotton can absorb up to 2.7 times its own weight in water. It will keep you dry by absorbing sweat and moisture and expels body heat at the same time. It helps circulate the air and thus helps regulate your body temperature. Cotton also doesn’t hold on to sweat and stays odor-free.
Maintaining cotton is easy. Your organic cotton clothing can be easily washed and generally doesn’t need ironing. Also, worth mentioning that it is more stain resistant. It also becomes even softer over time and can be washed over and over again without impacting its texture.
The way organic cotton is harvested and treated during the production process leaves the fibers of the cotton intact. They are longer and more resistant. The result is a susuperior-qualityf fabric. Clothing made of these fabrics will last longer, wash after wash. This means that you can enjoy your organic cotton clothing for a longer period of time and will probably be able to pass it on. As a result, there is less need for new clothing over time which makes it the more sustainable choice for our planet.
Organic cotton textile is not equal to organic cotton textile, as the amounts within a fabric can vary, the growing process might differ as can the production process. It is thus advisable to keep an eye out for certifications to be 100% sure of what you buy.
Various certifications for organic cotton are out there. They vary mainly as to which areas of cotton production they consider for their certification and to what extent. They might consider the amount of organic cotton used in a fabric, which sustainability standards have been followed throughout the production process and also might include fair labor standards.
Among the independent certification organizations, GOTS, the Global Organic Textile Standard, is the gold standard for certified organic cotton. Most of our organic cotton clothing at MiliMilu is certified with this most thorough standard.
To obtain the GOTS label for organic cotton, garments must contain at least 95% certified organic fibers. Garments with a minimum of 70% certified organic fibers can carry the label “made with organic materials”. The certification includes ecological and social criteria and takes the entire textile supply chain into consideration. Everything from the chemicals used along the process to the fair treatment of the workers is included and it is mandatory to meet all the criteria listed to become GOTS certified.
Another renowned certification is OEKO-TEX, which mainly guarantees that the textiles have been produced without harmful chemicals and under sustainable conditions. The fibers are not necessarily from an organic origin though. A certification for organic cotton, considering the organic origin of the cotton will be introduced by April 2023.
The OCS Standard – Organic Content Standard certifies that a product contains 95%-100% organic material. The certification also considers the route of the raw material from the source to the final product.
BCI – Better Cotton Initiative is the largest cotton sustainability non-profit program worldwide. It supports cotton farmers to work towards more sustainability while reducing their impact on the environment. The organization focuses on educating farmers on environmental protection through reducing water and use of chemicals; sustainable management of crop and soil and better the working conditions. Under the BCI program, farmers can still use GMO cotton seeds and chemicals, but are supported in making the transition towards a more sustainable way of producing cotton. BCI adhering farmers now account for about 19% of the global cotton production.
There are many reasons why we at MiliMilu love organic cotton and the benefits for everyone in the family from babies to adults and especially those with sensitive skin and allergies are considerable. ]]>Let’s dive in with telling you that you don’t need all that many different outfits, just some key pieces that can be styled up or down, depending on the occasion. Staying true to our promise at MiliMilu to take you from the beach to the city in just one outfit! The key is to work with a capsule wardrobe and a few signature pieces that fit your style and every occasion too. So, then how to get started with a sustainable capsule wardrobe in the first place?
Essentially a capsule wardrobe is “a limited selection of interchangeable clothing pieces that complement each other. These are often classic pieces that do not go out of style and are primarily composed of neutral colors. A capsule wardrobe allows you to create a variety of different outfits with a small selection of clothes''.
Key for that small selection of items would be to not go out of fashion, but be versatile, timeless and of high quality. Think t-shirts, blouses, skirts and trousers as your essentials using the least number of items possible.
A capsule wardrobe as such is already sustainable in itself, as it promotes having less clothes and owning more high-quality items that will last you longer. An additional step would be to favor materials that are natural and from organic sources, such as linen, cotton or wool, as well as choosing items that have been produced in an eco-friendly and ethical way, making them pieces of sustainable fashion.
With people getting more aware of the impact of the textile industry on the environment, you would think that the concept of capsule wardrobes is a new trend. But the concept was first introduced in the 1970s by Susie Faux, a British fashion icon. According to Faux, a capsule wardrobe would contain a few timeless essentials, such as skirts and pants that would be completed by seasonal items. The idea took off in 1985 when designer Donna Karan presented her collection of “Seven Easy Pieces” that were designed to take women from the office to a night out with only a few items.
The concept was and still is about functionality and simplicity, having a smaller selection of items available that are well-made and high quality. This would in reverse conclusion help you to eliminate cheap and low-quality items in your wardrobe that aren’t serving you well. The main goal for the items is to be interchangeable, so that you can build countless outfits out of a few items. Typically, a sustainable capsule wardrobe would contain 20-30 pieces, but other sources state that the magic number is somewhere between 33-37 pieces.
There are a few reasons why starting a sustainable capsule wardrobe makes sense, especially in the long run.
Protecting the environment and having a more sustainable lifestyle is for sure the reason number one that comes to mind. Since a capsule wardrobe does not require many pieces, it is an opportunity to invest in more durable, timeless pieces that will last longer. You can choose natural fabrics from organic sources, such as cotton, linen or wool that are gentler to the environment during their production process, but also decompose naturally at the end of their life span.
While the individual purchase of an item might be more expensive, you will save in the long run. As you go shopping less often, buy less and think more about what to buy you save money.
A capsule wardrobe makes the decision easier on what to wear with fewer options available. At the same time, you get more creative with the items you do have and have fun in the process. Instead of standing in front of a cluttered wardrobe, you have a wardrobe full of clothes that you love, know how to wear, fit you well and leave you feel confident and ready to start your day.
With all the above said, you have more time to spend on what you love doing, and don’t spend time deciding which outfit to wear, organizing your closet and go shopping to hunt for the newest fast fashion item.
In summary a capsule wardrobe helps you to reinforce your values and to focus on what really matters. The concept sparks your creativity in styling the items you have and leaves you feeling more organized, and confident about your closet and everything in it.
When getting started keep in mind that a sustainable capsule wardrobe is created out of pieces that build the foundation of your wardrobe. They are pieces that are versatile and do not limit your personal style. They are timeless in style and can be mixed and matched to create various outfits for every occasion. The pieces are functional, useful and fit your current lifestyle.
The first step in creating your sustainable capsule wardrobe is to take all your clothes out of the closet. Put everything on a big pile. You will probably be surprised at how many clothes you have and how few you wear on a regular basis. Did you know that as much as 80% of the clothes in our wardrobe take on dust as the other 20% are rotated on a regular basis. Those are probably the items that you love to wear and make you feel good.
The next step is to pick your favorite clothes and put them on the “Love to wear this” pile. You will probably find quite a few of them in those 20% that you wear over and over again. To sort through the pile, you can go by the following categories: Love to wear this; Not so much; Hard no; Seasonal items. Everything that you don’t love to wear and the seasonal items that are out of season at the moment can go in a box. Store them away. If you don’t miss these items, except the seasonal items, in the next three months, you can give them away. You clearly don’t care much for them, and they probably will serve somebody else more.
Take a moment to reflect on your style, the colors and materials you like and how the items could be mixed and matched. Do not hesitate to search online for inspiration. One example is Courtney Carver, who is at the origin of Project 333, initiating the idea of a capsule wardrobe in 33 pieces and sharing thoughts and inspiration over on her Instagram account.
One example on how to distribute a rough number of 33-37 pieces would be: 9 pair of shoes, 9 bottoms and 15 tops, completed by 2 dresses and 2 jackets. But again, you might love dresses and need more of them, or you will be happy with 4 pair of shoes, but need more sweaters and jackets. Just to say that it is really about you building a capsule wardrobe that fits your needs and lifestyle. You might even need 2 capsule wardrobes if your job requires a certain attire and your leisure life another.
Finally, a word on colors and tips to make sure your pieces are mixable. Choose a base color such as navy or black. Add essentials in neutral colors, e.g. black, navy, grey, white or beige. Choose one or two accent colors to add some spark to your capsule wardrobe. Add a few patterned items and some layers (sweaters, jackets, coats). Lastly choose your shoes and accessories.
Out of all the pieces that have their place in a sustainable capsule wardrobe, such as t-shirts, pants, blouses, jeans and sweaters, we do have 2 items that have the most potential to take you from the beach to the city and right to the event of your choice. Maybe it is just us, as we love dresses and a well-tailored blazer. These two items have, in our opinion, the most potential. A dress can be casual or up styled, while a blazer can elevate your jeans and shirt outfit to the next level. Add shoes to your outfit that fit your occasion and style, some accessories and the right shade of lipstick and you are ready to conquer every party, sports event and art gallery. Choosing a neutral-colored dress or a patterned one, depending on the style that is yours, you can up style or down style it with a few easy twists. Add flats or even sneakers for a more casual or sporty look or heels for a more sophisticated appearance. Choose discreet jewelry or statement pieces and add a bold lip stick for the extra eye-catcher. More ideas can be found in our guide on how to turn your casual look into a dressier one in a few easy steps. We do hope that we could inspire you to give the concept of a sustainable capsule wardrobe a try, or at least go check your wardrobe for your favorite items and clean out the ones that are hiding in the back, not serving your and cluttering your space and mind. As mentioned before, starting a sustainable capsule wardrobe is less a one-day project, but rather a project that will take some time to establish and then to maintain as well. The goal is to create a shift in your mindset when it comes to the way we consume fashion and the impact this has on the environment. If you are looking for ideas on what to do as a family that is fun and easy to do and involves you spending time together working on a project – why not considering mommy & me fashion, daddy & me fashion or even getting the whole family involved to create family matching outfits. As we mentioned before matching outfits help you bond and feel togetherness as a family. Your children will for sure be delighted to dress like you and twinning their way around the city. It will give them an extra boost in confidence and let them grow a tiny bit taller, knowing that they belong to a team together with their favourite people in the world.
The reason why we have family matching outfits and lots of mommy & me fashion options is because MiliMilu founder Linda Morrison just loves to match outfits with her family, be it with her daughter or her son for that matter. It makes their time together as a family more special and fun ! One of their favourite season for family matching outfits is actually coming up soon – Christmas ! Beans spilled – there will be some cute seasonal family matching outfits added to the MiliMilu collection shortly. The second reason for having mommy & me fashion, as well as daddy & me fashion at MiliMilu is that Linda couldn’t find stylish, yet sustainable matching outfits that were on top gentle to sensitive skin. She did try a few, but every time she had to compromise. Hence, she went out to solve this problem by adding some cute family matching looks to her collection. A big plus according to founder Linda Morrison is the fact that each item can be worn together to make a matching outfit or be styled separately, combined with other items to create a new look.
We realise it can feel difficult to know how to start with family matching outfits. Suggest the idea as a fun thing to do as a family and see how the reactions are. There are various options and variations possible. You could start with a mommy & me fashion outfit, go down the road of daddy & me fashion or go all in with a family matching outfit. You can choose a special event, like a wedding or birthday celebration, define a family outing to give it a try or think about a family outfit for the upcoming holidays. You can start small with accessories, like matching sunglasses or matching jewellery or you go for matching swimwear, thinking of the next holidays or a family outing on the weekend. If you got everybody on board you can of course also go big and create a whole outfit for everyone in the family, including matching dresses, shirts etc. From experience, children are less afraid to be bold and go all in, so involve them in the decision making. On top of feeling proud to belong, they will also feel accepted, respected and valued as part of the decision making in their family.
To sum it up: All variations of matching outfits, be it mommy & me fashion, daddy & me fashion or family matching outfits, are a way to express your togetherness and bond as a family. It also goes back to the core of the relationships as a family – LOVE!
So, have fun as a family, enjoy the process and don’t forget to take pictures!

]]>Linen is made from flax, a plant that is growing fast and thus is easily renewable. It is very resilient, thus flax needs fewer if any pesticides or fertilizers during its cultivation and its water needs can usually be met by rainfall. After harvesting, the entire flax plant can be used in various ways and hence generates no waste. The short and long fibers of the plant are used, as well as the seeds and turned into textiles, paper, varnish, oil, animal fodder and other bio-materials. After the plants have been pulled (harvested), the root remnants are left to fertilize and clean the soil, improving hereby the productivity of the soil for 6 to 7 years.
Being made from a resilient, low maintenance plant, linen fabrics are more energy efficient than other fabrics. Only 20% of the overall water usage go into growing and making linen, while 80% of the water and energy are actually used to wash and iron the finished garments. To give an example : Buying a linen shirt will save about 19.5L of water, compared to a cotton one.
On top, linen textiles absorb dye and prints well, meaning that less dye is needed to create vibrant colors and beautiful prints. Another win!
Worth mentioning that the production of linen, and especially high quality linen is labor-intensive, translates into a higher price point on purchase. For high-quality linen the flax stems need to be harvested at the longest length possible, which is why hand-harvesting is preferred over machine harvesting. After that, the seeds are removed and the fibers are extracted from the plants by a process called “retting”. It can be done natural, which is again more labor-intensive and done by hand or chemically. After that the longest fibers are spun into yarn and the yarn is woven into linen textiles.
The balance on energy efficiency and versatile use of flax is not easy to beat, making linen a rather eco-friendly fabric. But these are not the only advantages. Linen has many virtues that make it a must-have in any sustainable wardrobe.
Linen is very durable and can be used over and over again, hence making it a fabric that can be used for years. It will serve you a long time, and at the end of its life span it can still be easily recycled into paper or insulation materials for the car industry, e.g. Admitted: linen can be a bit hard in the beginning, but it will become softer and silkier over time, through usage and washing actually. It will thus be a center piece of your wardrobe for years and just becoming better and better. Unlike cotton, linen's flax fibers are actually several fibers bundled together, which makes the fabric far more durable and hard-wearing. That means you can enjoy your favorite linen clothes longer and make them a center piece of your sustainable wardrobe.
Linen is lightweight and breathable. Hence it is the ideal textile for hot and humid summers. The air can pass easily through the linen fibers and circulate. The structure of the fabric makes that it moves softly away from your body and does not stick to it. So, it will keep you cool. At the same time linen can absorb up to 20% of its weight without feeling damp. Again, perfect for those hot and sweaty summer days. Say bye to sweaty patches and hello to feeling fresh!
Having hollow fibers means that linen has good thermo-regulating properties. So not only is it a good choice for those hot and humid summer days, but also for colder seasons. A perfect all-rounder. Linda Morrison, founder of MiliMilu confirms, “Back in Latvia, we have cold winters with crisp temperatures to say the least . We have been using linen for generations thorough out the different seasons, be it hot or cold!”
Linen is hypoallergenic. If you have sensitive skin or allergies, it is definitely one of the best fabric choices and won’t irritate your skin. Actually one more reason why Linda Morrison is such a big fan of linen – She, as well as her children have sensitive skin.
Linen is easy to take care of. You can machine wash your linen clothes; just pay attention to wash them at 40 C or less to avoid shrinking and avoid using bleach or detergent with optical whiteners. No other special treatment needed, plus you can tumble dry or hang your linen clothes to dry naturally.
Another good thing about linen: you don’t need to iron your linen clothes necessarily to look good. High-quality linen is wrinkly and those wrinkles are part of the beauty of the fabric. An elegance that is effortlessly achieved and rarely applies to other fabrics.
Bonus: Linen is naturally moth resistant
We mentioned the advantages of linen, lightweight, breathable, moisture-wicking and thermoregulating, characteristics that are not to beat, especially in our HQ base Hong Kong.
What makes linen even more versatile and a perfect companion is its comfort and timeless style. Linen clothes are usually designed to have a loose fit, making them perfect for all ages, sizes, and shapes as well as for any occasion. Can you guess that we are simply in love with linen!?
Founder of MiliMilu Linda Morrison grew up with lots of linen clothing and house wear and has appreciated the characteristics and longevity of linen ever since she was a child. Personally, she still wears linen for almost every occasion, be it daily casual wear, evenings out, comfort and stylish occasions. Especially during hot summer days, as there are many in Hong Kong, linen clothing is her favorite textile to wear as it is breathable, comfortable, yet stylish combined with a touch of luxury. Surely one of the sustainable clothing staples in her private wardrobe. Linen summer dresses and men's shirts are a must-have for every woman and man living in hot and humid weather.
We love linen and while it is naturally a very sustainable fabric, more can be done. We work hard to carefully select our linen brands and insure that their linen clothes are made from the highest quality of European linen; flax grown in Europe and then linen produced in Europe. For that reason, all our linen clothes come with an Oeko-Tex certification. Developed in the 1990s by the International Oeko-Tex Association, the Standard 100 is the most well-known and trusted certification for product safety. This certification guarantees that the items test free of high levels of over 100 toxic substances.
Most of our linen clothes are handcrafted and produced in small quantities respecting fair trade standards too, made in the Baltics under EU regulations. It is at our core that we offer the most sustainable clothing from a quality point of view, but also an ethical production point of view. True to what we know as slow fashion and making each item a worthy center piece of your sustainable wardrobe for years to come.
Good to know: currently, MiliMilu offers linen clothing for women and men and we will be adding kids' linen clothing soon. Plus, we are working on something exciting behind the scenes that will actually involve linen too.
]]>MiliMilu is the passion project of founder Linda Morrison. Originally from Latvia, Linda has spent and still spends lots of time in nature and feels a deep connection with the environment. Being little, she was mostly found outdoors, wandering around the surrounding forests and enjoying beach life with her family and friends. Born in the former USSR, she grew up in a clean environment with few plastic, synthetic or processed items around her. Due to the limited supply of things, Linda learned from a young age to take care of her clothes and toys, which were mostly handcrafted and made from organic materials. Items were passed down from family and friends and hence the impact on nature was limited, and each item long lasting. When the borders opened in the 90s, Linda saw first-hand the excitement of the new freedom and access to the generous amounts of clothes and toys, but she also observed the emergence of unnecessary waste.
After having children of her own, Linda wanted to teach her children the value of a sustainable lifestyle and how each and every one of us is responsible for their actions and the impact those actions have on the environment. It is thus important to her to convey to her children that we all need to think about the purchases we make and even more so need to take care of our belongings to make them last longer. Of course it is hard to not spoil our children and truth to be told, Linda also is guilty of giving in from time to time.
MiliMilu: A name with a deeper meaningMiliMilu stands for LoveLove in Latvian – A symbol for our love for Mother Nature, the love for our children and our families and the love for the details, especially when it comes to making eco-friendly choices and leading a more sustainable lifestyle. Fashion and its production cycle is an often overlooked, yet important part in taking care of our planet. We believe that together we can make sustainable choices when it comes to fashion; prioritizing clothing from sustainable sources, ethically produced and long lasting in order to take care of our planet. This ideal pairs with our love for simple, yet sophisticated fashion from sustainable sources and the love for the people behind the design and production of each pieces. Every step made with love and brought to you with great care.
Core values of MiliMilu for more sustainability in fashion
1. Natural or recycled materials from sustainable and organic sources
Besides her upbringing, an additional factor weighed in to create MiliMilu. Founder Linda has sensitive skin and reacts with allergies to clothes that are made from synthetic fibres; same goes for processed food actually. This sensitivity was passed down to her children and thus it was most important to find clothes that would be gentle to the family’s skin. Only clothing made from organic materials with no harmful chemicals are tolerated and don’t spark allergic skin reactions. The market in Hong Kong offering a very limited selection if any at all at the time, Linda jumped in and closed this gap with the sustainable fashion offered by her brand MiliMilu.
2. Ethical and socially responsible production cycle
Finally, it also was important to founder of MiliMilu, Linda Morrison that she was comfortable with answering her son’s questions about the origin of his PJs. Her son is very curious and one night he asked whether the person who made his PJs was happy. And the only answer Linda ever wanted to give was “Yes”. Yes, because working with the fabrics would not be harmful to that person. Yes, because the person was paid a fair wage. Yes, because that person was working in a work environment that treated them with respect and with good working conditions. So, not only is the origin of the fabrics of clothes important, but also the environment in which they are handled and the people involved in the process. Sustainable fashion is about materials from natural, often organic sources, about ethical production of said clothes and being socially responsible.
3. Fashion as part of a more sustainable lifestyle
Taking all these factors into consideration there was only one way forward: making it our mission to offer sustainable fashion for the whole family and to work with smaller brands and workshops. Many of their clothes are actually handcrafted and they all take the control they have over their production environment very seriously and choose the fibres they work with wisely. We are thus proud to be able to say, that we know who made our clothes and whether they are happy. And we want to share the good news with you all in our MiliMilu community.

]]>It is barely November, yet people are already getting excited for Christmas and the festive season. While Christmas as a holiday is still quite new to Hong Kong, this year will see many celebrations, parties, themed pop up markets and much more. This is for sure also due to the long lockdown, that fortunately is behind us for now. So the question is: “Is your wardrobe Christmas ready?” Whether or not you feel ready for the season in terms of outfits and dresses, we have some ideas, tips and tricks to help you match outfits that fit the festive season.
One of our core values at MiliMilu is that our outfits bring you from the beach to the city, from casual to glam. With the right tweaks to your outfit and some accessories you and your outfit will be ready in no time for the after work parties and celebrations. Being able to use your outfit for various occasions not only leaves you looking your best throughout the day, but is also a way towards a more sustainable wardrobe. So, let’s see how we can enter the Christmas season, styling and matching outfits by adding a bit of glam and sparkle.
1. Fit the festive season by using accessories and jewelry
Adding jewelry to style an outfit can change the whole vibe of a look and give it an extra touch of glamour. You could wear a statement piece of jewelry, a necklace, bracelets, or earrings. Don’t overdo it, but choose one feature you want to accentuate and wear your piece with pride and attitude. Experiment with colors that complement the colors of your outfit, or choose gold, silver, bronze or a combination of them all.
2. Style your outfit with the right shoes
Shoes can take an outfit from casual to glamourous and back. If you think evening, you almost automatically think heels and you are not wrong. Heels instantly elevate a casual dress to party mode and will take you from a casual day out to the evening gathering. If heels are not your thing, you can also choose a classy pair of wedges or even kitten heels. Do keep your event in mind, when choosing a heel – neutral color and style for a work event, dazzling and sparkling for the night out.
3. Don’t forget about the purse
Like a heel, your purse can also make or break an outfit. If it is too big, it will take the attention from your outfit. Choose a smaller size and a more glamourous type and shape, like a clutch e.g. that elevates the rest of your outfit and adds the extra sparkle.
4. Add a stylish blazer
As the nights start to get a bit cooler, nothing wrong in adding a layer and cover your shoulders once the sun is down. Choose a blazer or vest that adds to the look and shapes your silhouette. This is especially true when you wear a flowy dress. Bringing the contours of your outfit closer to your silhouette will elongate you and add to a more classy evening look.
5. Accentuate the waist
Speaking of dresses, try clinching the waist. For looser, flowy dresses clinching the waist will make your outfit look more formal and will elongate your shape. Think high quality belt, heels and jewelry and voilà your stylish nighttime outfit matching the season.
6. Choose neutral colors and classic patterns
Last, but not least, be mindful when choosing the color and pattern of your dress. Let’s put it this way: “A plain dress is an empty canvas awaiting your creative masterpiece”. A neutral, unicolored dress will give you more freedom to work with accessories and achieve the look you had in mind. Patterns work too, but keep in mind that some patterns and color schemes will respond better to a glamourous revamp than others. In terms of a sustainable wardrobe, items that are easy to style and versatile are better as they will keep you excited longer for how you can change their look and feel with some simple hacks.
7. Bonus Tip: Hair & a red lip
Your hair is one more feature that you can style. A creative hairdo can add to your glamourous look and is easily done by adding a sparkly clip, a hairband or headpiece. Just keep in mind the style of your overall outfit and the vibe you are trying to achieve. As for the red lip – A fast and timeless add-on feature that promises instant glam. Make sure though to choose a tone that flatters your skin tone.
8. Bonus Tip II: Inspiration for styling casual outfits
Can we just mention, that we currently are in love with Emily Elisabeth May’s take on styling casual basic outfits to give them the extra wow. Through her videos on YouTube, she also shares tips and tricks on how to achieve a more sustainable wardrobe and to follow a slow fashion road.

At MiliMilu we are very much focused on sustainable clothing and organic, respectively recycled textiles. You already know that, right!? While we have been focusing on clothes, MiliMilu is now adding an underwear line for kids. We are very excited about this for multiple reasons. This particular underwear is made from TENCEL™ Micro Modal. It is a natural fiber known for its incredibly silky feel and softness on the skin, especially when prone to eczema. On top, the brand we are working with, Just Peachy Basics, is locally based here in Hong Kong. A collaboration between two local small businesses and we couldn’t be happier about the fact that we get to support each other and offer our clientele added value. But let’s get back to the question about what underwear to wear for eczema prone skin, especially for kids.
The reason behind everything we do here at MiliMilu was the fact that founder Linda Morrison, but also her kids have sensitive skin, especially her son, who is prone to getting eczema rashes. This made it tricky to find clothing that they could tolerate on their skin, hence MiliMilu. The same went with underwear and after trying innumerable brands and fabrics, Linda found Just Peachy Basics underwear for kids. Both her kids love how soft the underwear is and how easy it is to wear for every occasion (think playgrounds and similar). They can also be worn with every type of clothing, including dresses, as the underpants come in a short type cut.
Just Peachy’s Feel Good underwear is crafted in the softest and finest TENCEL™ Modal, a natural fiber known for its incredibly silky feel. Find out why TENCEL™ Modal clothing is recommended by the National Eczema Association for kids and adults with eczema.
Eczema is a common skin condition, more prevalent in babies and young children than in adults, that's characterized by patches of dry, red, itchy skin and in severe cases can lead to itchy scaling and bleeding. Symptoms can often be managed, but it's something that many live with their whole lives.
Eczema can be caused by a number of different factors, including genetics, but what's common amongst all of them is that for people who suffer from eczema their skin may not produce as many fats and oils as others, which would normally act as a moisture barrier. As a result, the protective barrier of the outermost layer of skin isn't as effective at keeping environmental irritants and bacteria out and fighting them. For most, these irritants are synthetic substances that exist all around us, even in our clothing. What we can do to prevent an allergic reaction or eczema flare-up is to be mindful of what we expose ourselves to and to choose natural over synthetic, organic over not whenever possible.
The materials and the substances used in the production process of your clothing can be an eczema trigger and it’s therefore extremely important to be aware of the materials you wear. Some common fabrics known to cause a rash or a negative reaction include:
Clothing made of eczema-friendly materials can help prevent irritation and reduce inflammation. Generally, looking for soft, breathable fabrics with moisture-wicking properties is your best bet. This is one of the main reasons why most of the MiliMilu collections are made from organic cotton, linen and other eczema-friendly materials. One of our current favorites and a brand new collection that just came in is Dear Sophie. All the kids clothes in this collection are made from extra light organic cotton, are super soft on the skin and just so much fun. Definitely approved by our very own little testers!
TENCEL™ Modal is a newly developed natural fiber that's often used to make luxury clothing because of its incredible silky feel. Its other secret power is its ability to prevent eczema flare-ups and also help speed up the healing process by giving the skin relief and time to breathe, rebuild its moisture barriers and heal. The fibers used in Just Peachy's Feel Good Underwear is not only sourced from the only producer that harvests from FSC-certified forests, but is traceable from fiber to garment with Oeko Tex certification to ensure quality and your child's safety.
What makes TENCEL™ Modal ideal for eczema-prone skin?
The most obvious benefit is how incredibly soft and gentle it feels on the skin, particularly eczema-prone skin that's sensitive to chafing. Just Peachy's kids underwear goes the extra mile in leveraging TENCEL™'s Micro Technology to produce an even finer, softer fabric than ever before.
Another benefit of TENCEL™ Modal is its antibacterial properties, meaning it can inhibit the growth of bacteria, another common cause for flare-ups especially in humid climates where they thrive, and can lead to infection. This is why moisture-wicking fabrics is so important.
Finally, TENCEL™ Modal is also naturally itch suppressing, which is a huge benefit as itchiness is the most prevalent symptom. Itchiness is especially hard for young children, dressing them in cool, soft, moisture-wicking clothing day and night can help relieve symptoms. In fact, nighttime is when the little ones need itch relief the most for a good night's sleep.

In a few words: Sustainability is defined nowadays as “the process and actions through which humankind avoids the depletion of natural resources, in order to keep an ecological balance that doesn’t allow the quality of life of modern societies to decrease”. While the term is often connected especially to the environmental aspect, sustainability has three dimensions: economy, society and the environment. Informally you could also refer to these pillars as profit, people and planet.
We all know how important it is to lead a more sustainable life, but with a busy lifestyle, even more so as a family with children involved, it can be difficult to know where to start and how to teach our kids about sustainability. Know that even a small step towards a more sustainable life as a family is a step in the right direction. To make things easier on you, we have put together simple ideas for more sustainability for the whole family, including tips and tricks on how to get your kids involved.
First and foremost it all starts with us! Showing up and leading by example and mimic the behavior we would like to see in our kids in the long run. The good news is that children are inherently curious about the world around us. They want to know all there is to know about nature, animals and how things work and fit together. A great basis to build on and teach them about sustainability by taking care of their surroundings and getting involved. Add a positive attitude to the mix and some fun and you have built a solid foundation for your kids to be environmentally conscious and to lead sustainable lives as they grow up.
There are plenty of ways on how to be more sustainable in everyday life and these might look different from family to family. But every action, as small as it might be, will make a difference. A popular slogan to guide you in your decisions are the 3 R’s – Reduce, reuse, recycle. Think reducing waste by making eco-friendly choices that come with less packaging e.g. Reuse items instead of getting new ones or using disposable ones. Recycle your trash and items that can’t be used anymore.
Some ideas on more sustainability in everyday life at home and outside:Build on your kids’ energy and urge to move and explore their surroundings. Take them outside into nature! You can go to the nearest park, take them to a national park, go on a hike with them or even go camping if that's your thing. They will feel immersed in nature and connected, while exploring and discovering the beauty of nature. By the way, did you know that 40% of the metropolitan area of Hong Kong are National Parks? That means a lot of opportunities to go on hikes and to connect with nature and teach your kids in an easy way about all the little creatures and what we can do to protect them and their habitat.
While you are out and about : How about a scavenger hunt or collecting flowers, feathers and leaves. Not only perfect to learn about the different plants and birds, but also perfect items to get into arts & crafts with recyclables with your kids.
Another great way to teach your kids more about sustainability and the impact of (plastic) waste on the planet are “green walks”. This means cleaning up a stretch in a park or on the beach as you go for a walk. An activity that will leave you and your kids with a sense of achievement for the better of the environment. We are also sure that your kids will enjoy the activity very much and go excitedly on « trash hunt » as you walk along.
We have a particular love for being outdoors and immerse into nature with kids, but there are many other activities around teaching them about sustainability too. Reading books about the environment for kids helps children understand the concept in a more visual way. It also gives you an opportunity to connect with them and learn together. The same goes for age appropriate documentaries about sustainability. You can also build on your child’s curiosity and prepare simple experiments at home for them to see and experience what water pollution e.g. actually means and looks like. Or get into crafting and DIY items from recyclables, giving materials and packaging a second life right in your home.
If you have green thumb or just generally are interested in growing / taking care of plants, why not trying to grow your own food and at the same time teach your kids where their food is coming from. You don’t need a big outside space for this, but can just start with some pots sitting on your window, or on your balcony. Again a great opportunity to teach kids how to take care of the environment and being rewarded by yummy homegrown produce, that on top will for sure be organic. Most fascinating is to actually regrow vegetables from scraps. Potatoes and any leafy greens are very rewarding in that perspective.
In the spirit of the 3 R’s, attend or even organize a swap for clothes, books or toys in your community. The perfect occasion to find a new home for items that your kids have outgrown or no longer serve you and in exchange you might find items that you need.
A sometimes overlooked opportunity to be more sustainable is gift giving. Being thoughtful about the gift you are about to give, what a person likes and what she is interested in, can make a present unforgettable, long lasting and sustainable at the same time. Think offering experiences, services, time you can spent together or opt for a gift from a sustainable company. We have collected some inspiration for sustainable gifts for Mother’s Day or for any occasion you give a present to a loved one, really.
First of all: what is sustainable fashion anyways. Sustainable fashion has several dimensions, which makes it a real allrounder for more sustainability in everyday life. Sustainable clothing not only involves materials that are from natural, often organic sources, but also being ethical in the manufacturing process, on top of fair wages for the people producing the clothes. It also includes transportation means and waste management during production, but also dealing with leftover clothing items, which more often than not unfortunately land in landfills.
Sustainability for the whole family doesn’t have to be complicated or overwhelming. As mentioned earlier even one small step can go a long way. Sit down with your family, include the kids in the discussion and decide together on the actions you want to take, fitting your interests and your lifestyle. Involving kids or any person in the decision making for that matter, gets them on board and has a higher chance on being sustained in the long run. Particularly for kids this will give them a sense of responsibility, but also independence. They learn that their ideas are valued and their engagement appreciated as well as them being able to make a difference even from a young age. It also teach kids how to take care of the environment, being thoughtful and considerate towards their surroundings. You basically install sustainable habits that will benefit them as they grow.
Finally, make the process fun and celebrate the little positive actions you have taken as a family towards a more sustainable lifestyle!

]]>Linda Morrison: The first year has just flown by! Over the course of that first year in business we have grown and learned so much, while also overcoming some bumps; Mainly the period when the Covid pandemic hit Hong Kong with full force, including the strict lockdown, restrictions on gatherings and of course the restrictions on shipment and postage. It has been a real learning curve and we are grateful for the amazing support we have encountered. I wouldn’t be where I am now if not for the support and encouragement of my family, especially my husband and friends to start MiliMilu. A big thank you also to the people I met during the year who gave me valuable advice for the business, supported me and inspired me to keep pushing.
The starting point of MiliMilu was the limited offer on sustainable clothing made from organic, natural fibers in Hong Kong, not only for women, but also children. Linda, as well as her children have sensitive skin and only tolerate organic, natural fibers. A void that needed to be filled and Linda stepped in. Determination, the motivation to make a difference and supporting people in leading a more sustainable lifestyle through eco-friendly fashion made a dream come true.
Linda Morrison: The hardest part of my entrepreneur journey was for sure starting the business and making the idea I had in my mind for ages a reality. The idea is based on my family’s need to wear natural, organic fibers that have not been treated with harsh chemicals. But at the same time the clothes should be stylish and of course produced in an ethical way – think fair wages and working conditions for the people producing the clothes. Finally, I also wanted my children to be aware of these topics and teach them about a sustainable lifestyle, including eco-friendly clothing.
Starting a business is challenging you as a person. You will make mistakes, but learning from them is essential, and every set back offers a lesson that will help you to move forward. For me the main lesson during this first year of MiliMilu was the importance on finding the right support group. A group of people that inspires you, offers advice and keeps cheering you on when things don’t go so well. Not everybody has your best interest at heart and thus it is essential to be vigilant and search carefully to find that right tribe for you. I did manage to find my tribe after a while; like-minded people who support my dream all the way and I couldn’t be more thankful for their support.
As mentioned we faced the harshest restrictions in Hong Kong due to a major Covid outbreak earlier this year and this was a big challenge for us after a good start. The circumstances led to a few slow months in sales and we were not well prepared for that situation, to be honest. We pushed though, focusing on our offer to the community and powered through. We are more than happy to have left that phase behind and to focus on a bright future and our new collections.
Speaking of – Any new collections coming soon? MiliMilu added sustainable swim wear and fun sustainable sunglasses to its collection this summer and plans on expanding their collection further, not only item wise, but also expanding to new markets. Can you tell us more?
Linda Morrison: We actually can’t wait to present our new Autumn collection. We will start to share sneak peaks very soon and it will be one of our best collections yet. Furthermore we will add sustainable fashion items for our youngest – a cute and sustainable baby collection. We do hope our customers will love the collection as much as we do. Loyal to our brand values, the items from our baby collection will be made of organic cotton, with no harmful chemicals added and will of course also be ethically produced and fair trade.
One could say that MiliMilu is now well established and renown in Hong Kong and after dipping its toes into new markets on a test run, the brand will expand to new markets outside of Hong Kong. Any insights already?
Linda Morrison: Indeed, we have one more very exciting announcement for our customers, especially those outside of Hong Kong. We will be expanding into new markets in Asia. MiliMilu will be more present in some of Asia’s most vibrant hubs and share their sustainable fashion with the communities there. The plans are still in the making as we work out the last details, so we will share more detailed info in due time. As of now we do offer international shipping from Hong Kong, so everyone interested in our collection can already get their favorite items via that channel. In any case, I suggest to sign up for our newsletter to stay updated.
Many exciting news coming from the MiliMilu headquarters, with expanding the collection and also entering new markets in Asia, the question that burns now is whether there will be a MiliMilu house brand anytime soon.
Linda Morrison: Having our own house brand of sustainable eco-friendly fashion items is something we had in mind right from the beginning of MiliMilu. We have been working on this idea behind the scenes ever since. The process is slow as we want to ensure to select the workshops that align best with our values of sustainability and ethical standards in fashion. We are very careful with the selection and have to overcome some challenges, especially when working across borders. Our aim is to make sure the items from our house collection will be made from organic fabrics, with no harmful chemicals used in the process to ensure the least possible impact on the planet. We also value ethical work conditions and fair wages and want to stay true to an authentic slow fashion collection. We are making good progress though and we are excited for our very own MiliMilu sustainable fashion collection coming your way.
Coming back to our introduction, it is the first anniversary of MiliMilu and that must be celebrated, right!?
Lind Morrison: Of course we are excited to celebrate this first year of MiliMilu and while we are not throwing a big party at this time, we will be celebrating online! On Instagram and especially via our newsletter. If you are a subscriber you are in for some treats. If not, quickly go register! Think promo codes and anniversary specials for subscribers only, and much more over the next few weeks.
Me and my family are actually headed back to Europe to visit loved ones that we haven’t seen in a long while and we can’t wait! Which is the main reason to keep the celebrations online for now. But don’t worry, everything runs as usual while we are traveling. Orders can be made and will be dispatched in a timely manner.
I also want to say a big thank you to all MiliMilu customers, who have supported us throughout this first year and we are looking forward to many more years to come. And maybe we will have a big party once we are back in Hong Kong! Just stay tuned and do say hi on Instagram, Facebook or via email. We are always happy to hear from you all!

]]>Whether you are planning to travel out of Hong Kong or opt for a staycation during the upcoming holiday season, nothing beats clever packing; even more so if you can make your holiday travels more sustainable that way. A few simple hacks and clever clothes choices will not only make for a lighter suitcase, but also for more sustainable traveling.
Who isn’t guilty of packing too much, yet not enough and ending up buying new clothes on destination to fit the local weather? Check the weather forecast and make sure you pack according. Also, consider what activities you have planned and what else you might need. Think towels (does your accommodation provides them), rainwear, sunglasses, layers and tote bags for shopping trips.
Finally comfort is key, pack clothes you love wearing and shoes that you are comfortable walking in. That way you will avoid buying replacements (that you might just like so, so, but need to buy right that moment) during your holidays.
We are a fan of less is more when it comes to clothes and a capsule wardrobe is a great way to make your travel wardrobe more sustainable. Even more so if the fabrics are long-lasting and from organic or recycled origins. What we mean is that holiday travels are a great opportunity to try out your capsule wardrobe skills by packing items that can be mixed, matched and layered in multiple ways. Also think of transition outfits like dresses, down dressed during the day and up dressed in the evening. For example with a pair of nice shoes or some accessories.
Another key element, yet often overlooked when it comes to clever packing for sustainable traveling, are toiletries. Try switching your disposable cotton wool pads to reusable ones. (Just be careful to select wipes made from organic and ethically sourced cotton or bamboo, which will also be more gently to your skin). Use refillable, travel-sized containers for your soap, shampoo and conditioner, as well as any creams you might need. Or even go for soap, shampoo and conditioner bars. If you travel to the sun, get some reef safe sunscreen to avoid damaging the reefs and marine life with toxic chemicals. Your body will thank you as well.
It seems like a no-brainer when at home: using a reusable water bottle and bringing your tote bag ( if you have shopped at MiliMilu you got one!) instead of accepting the single use bags in the shops. These can be trickier on holidays though, especially if your destination doesn’t have safe water coming out of the tap. Again, planning ahead is key. Inform yourself whether drinking water is safe from the tap at your destination, whether water is easily accessible when on the go and how else you could minimize the use of single use water bottles. In any case, don’t forget your tote bag, single use bags really can be avoided everywhere! ;)
Now MiliMilu wouldn’t be MiliMilu, if we didn’t have you covered where ever your holiday plans might take you. Be it a sunny place with summer vibes or a cooler place that currently rocks winter weather. When packing clothes that can be used for multiple occasions, we recommend dresses as they come in quite handy. They can be casual and comfortable during the day, but also up dressed in the evening and layered with a vest or jacket to keep you warm during the chillier nights. Clothes from linen and organic cotton will help your body regulate the temperature in case you hit a summer spot during your holidays. And in case you are a fan of matching outfits for the whole family, we have some of these too. Not only are they cute, but also make for a fun family activity to bond and create memories. Plus, your family holiday pictures will be even more amazing.
As always, stay in touch and get the latest news from us at MiliMilu by following us on:
